Question....Why do so many people hate the All Star Resorts?

I have never stayed there, but standing next to the bus stop for the All Stars at the MK, I thought there were a disproportionate number of cigarette smokers. That is reason enough for me to not stay there.

I've stayed in every level of Disney resort at least 2 times and while I don't hate values, I really don't prefer them. I like a resort that has sit-down dining options, large rooms, and a more tranquil atmosphere. While the fountain by Jazz at ASMu was nice, it felt like a tiny oasis in the middle of...not an ideal setting for me. :) Aside from the fact that ASMu was overrun by Pop Warner participants (bad timing on my part), we had terrible service there. I did like my stay at ASMo, but we were there with a big family group including a lot of kids, and we got excellent service there.

To each her own, I say -- values certainly have their place, but I just want more out of a hotel, that's all. I like that the option is there and that Disney has something for almost every taste and budget, though.

Just because I don't have any desire to stay at the All Star resorts doesn't mean that I hate them
I agree. I have never stayed in them before but the decor is loud and tacky to me and I want more of a relaxed theme.

Loved the pool!!! We thought the hotel (Music) was great. We thought we would definately stay again in the value resorts vs off-site (made that mistake a few years ago--never again--scary!!!). We are hardly ever in the room anyways...so for us Values were fine. I thought the bus service was great. It would be nice if they had more dining options--but more dining options are only a bus ride away. We have to try Pop one of these days!!!

Have a great trip!!!

I don't HATE them...how can I when I've never stayed at one? The theming just does not appeal to me. I compare the more "tranquil" settings of the moderates and deluxes to the "vibrant" décor of the value resorts and I ask myself, "what kind of environment do I want to return to after a long day of hyper-stimulation in the parks?" Certainly, if it were to come down to a choice between onsite at a value resort and offsite "anywhere but WDW", I'd choose the value resort. It just hasn't come down to that yet.

We tried the values twice and did not like them at all. Another poster said people think its beneath them that is not true! I think everyone stays at the resort that best suits their needs or wants for their vacation. We are all different just because I won't stay at the values doesn't at all mean I think less of someone who does. We usually go for at least 7 nights. With that amount of time we don't need to be park commandos we slow down and enjoy spending time at the resort. So the resort to us is more than just a place to sleep.

Just a simple question to everyone on this discussion. How long do you really stay in your hotel when you have 4 great parks, Downtown Disney and everything else to see.
Have you ever been that disappointed at a Disney Resort??? :sad2:

Don't get me wrong, I am a DVC owner and love my timeshare but I am hardly in my room but to sleep. Just throwing this one out there to see how many people really spend a long time at their resort.

I really do love the parks and the whole Disney atmosphere so I am pretty much happy at any place I stay! Rain or shire I am happy!

Staying at Music for the first time and who knows - I may change my mind but I am so excited just to be able to go. I am going as a chaperone so I don't think I will be in the room that much!

thats what i say, i hardly spend anytime in my room at all. Im always at any of the 4 parks or 2 water parks or at downtown disney or at the boardwalk browsing through the shops or playing mini golf at fantasia gardens or winter summerland. Theres just so much to do at disney and there isnt time to spend it in the room. Again, i know the all star resorts arent everyones favorite and i agree that i would rather stay in a deluxe anyday. Believe me if i could stay in the AKL everytime i go to WDW i would. I love that resort. The all star resorts or even pop century are just more in my budget. I dont want to pick a fight with anyone. :) :goodvibes

I've never stayed at any of the values and I never will. It is not the themes that don't appeal to me. It is (IMHO) the over the top visual effects of the resorts. Plus I like the option of having the monorail instead of bus transportation for my 2 favorite parks :teeth: Especially with 2 small kids I want to be able to get back to our room and return to the parks easily

I actually enjoyed our stay a few years back at All star sports. I thought the price was great, the rooms were comfortable and the values have a fun magical theme to them. DH doesnt see it and refuses to go back there. We have only stayed at moderates since then. I think values get a bad name-they are a great way to see WDW and save a few bucks! :)

I've never stayed at a value, so I don't hate them. And actually when planning our last trip I considered staying at ASMovies, but I didn't like the idea of shared buses. So I considered POP, but dh being a student really needed high speed internet, so that knocked all values off the list of possibilites. We went with CSR. And after being in a mod room for a week with two kids, ages 7 and 1, I don't know if we could all fit in a value. 4 people, two large suitcases of clothes, 3 backpacks of toys and kid "equiptment", a crib, a stroller, a fridge, and stuff, stuff, stuff.....we would have been falling all over each other in a smaller room.

Actually, while I don't hate the values, I will probably never stay at one because DH and I are "Pooh-sized" people and a double bed just doesn't cut it for us.

Also, I think in general they are geared more toward families with children, which is great. But we don't have children so we prefer a bit more of an "adult" type atmosphere. That isn't to say there aren't children everywhere at WDW, but the themeing at the value resorts, while it is fun for kids, is a tad "cartoonish" for my taste. I do completely understand why kids love it though. I would have too when I was a kid.

I don't spend tons of time in my room, but when I am there I do like to be comfy, and feel like I am on vacation. The themeing of most of the moderates or deluxes lends itself more to that type of feeling for me.

I do believe that each level of accomodations at WDW exists to appeal to specific demographics, which I think is wonderful. It would be a pretty boring world if we all liked the same thing!

I've never stayed at a Deluxe, and until we hit the lottery, :rotfl: we probably won't. That doesn't mean I wouldn't love to, just don't have the $$$ to stay.

I've never stayed at a Value, but have a ressie for this Fall at POP. I'm really looking forward to it- the theming seems fun, and since we are a family of only three, we don't have room size issues. And, the price is right!

I have stayed at Mods before- they were great. Rooms were nice, amenities were wonderful.

To each his own- I think it is a matter of priorities. If lots of amenities and the closeness of the parks (via monorail or boat) is important, then Deluxes are the way to go. :sunny:
If some amenities and somewhat larger rooms are important, but price is equally important, then Moderates can't be beat. :flower:
If the biggest priority is cost, you mainly just sleep at the resort, and amenities aren't as important, then Values are terrific! :goodvibes

I figure, any way you go, you are at The Happiest Place on Earth- you can't go wrong! :cloud9:

We've done 5 trips so far -- 3 at all stars, one at Coronado Springs, and one at the Poly. If it's good swimming weather and my daughter wants a water slide -- we'll upgrade to a moderate. However, we love the decor and the rooms are comfortable enough at the all stars. Loved the Poly, would gladly stay there for twice the price of a value -- four times the price  , however, makes me decide I like the kitsch at the all stars a bit better. Actually, we really are kids at heart and love the decor -- my daughter is longing for her popcorn light at all star Movies.

If we were a family of 4 or 5 people instead of 3, we'd probably be looking for a bit more space. When I'm not at Disney, I'm an Embassy Suites, Residence Inn type. It all depends what you're in the mood for and what you want to spend your money on. Heck, I'm already planning on using the $79 rate at the all stars this fall to counter buying my daughter some 14k gold Mickey Mouse earrings . . . :teeth:

I think all the Disney resorts are great, but they are different things. I think of it like a meal. There is a Quick Service hamburger that is awesome and a Victoria and Albert's feast. There's tons in between. Likewise, you can stay at All Stars or a 3,000 a night room in GF concierge. I think there's a place for everyone on every budget and every taste which is great. I always stayed at mods with my family. Last summer, I stayed at the Pop for one night. A few things I didn't like were the extreme thinness of the walls and the soap dispenser in the shower. Other than that it was fine and I would stay there again. Just to give you an idea. I've always loved the Poly. For my next vacation we are spending 3 nights at the Poly, 4 on the Disney Wonder and then 2 nights at the Pop. I will get to enjoy my favorite restaurants, gorgeous atmosphere, and amazing room at the Poly. Then I'll also be able to extend my vacation by 2 days without going broke. It's a tradeoff. Some people would rather take 2 vacations a year at a value and some would rather one every 2 years at a Deluxe. Bottom line is, if YOU love it, then it's great! There are people who hate the Grand Floridian, or the Yacht Club or All Stars. They don't stay there. Do what you love! :flower:

I think this is funny we cant waite to stay at the all star movies!
I think it is great having the deco rooms.
Some of us just love the MOUSE a bit more I guess then others!
They are for familys with children and I am sure kids will say they love all the :earsboy: value resorts.

I don't hate the All Stars, I just will not stay at them again if I can help it. It's not that I think they are "beneath me" (and ,frankly, resent that implication)

It's just that I want different things in a vacation. I have stayed at ASSp once. I didn't care for the bus service, lack of sit-down restaurant and other amenities. But what really sealed it was the amount of noise there. Even tho we were really only in the room to sleep on that commando trip, that was difficult because of the thin walls & amount of noise. Lack of sleep is not my idea of vacation.

As far as how much time I spend in my room? More now than I used to. It's not just the time spent in my room, it's the time I spend at the resort. We do enjoy spending some time at the resort. I do lounge by the pool, soak in the hot tub, enjoy a fine dining experience. I do enjoy lingering over my morning coffee on my balcony while reading the paper, strolling into a Park or sitting in the lobby chatting with friends...... I enjoy peaceful surroundings. That's what makes a vaction for me and I can't get that at the All Stars.

I don't think people really hate them. We stayed at the All Star Music in 1997. It was nice enough. It just didn't have the amenities that the mods and deluxe resorts have. The pools don't have slides, no boats to rent etc. The only entertainment other than the pools are the arcades and that adds up to more $$$. I agree with the person who wrote about the bus system. It is a pain to be the last bus stop. Always standing and very crowded. Ironically, we just got back from Port Orleans Riverside and had that same experience. The buses pick up and drop off the French Quarter side before the Riverside folks. It is a pain that these resorts don't have their own buses, especially Riverside with over 2000 guest rooms.

We have stayed at the All Stars Music 2 times. The kids liked staying there better then POR.

I liked POR better since you have a larger room but I wouldnt hesitate to stay at a Value again.

This time we are staying at BCV...I hope I can still say that after staying there :earsboy:
