Question: What is the difference between Photopasses Archive Disc, and Memory Maker?

I have been to Disney World in the past, and I have purchased the Photopass Disc with my pictures on it. I have always liked Photopass, and I always felt that purchasing the disc was worth it. It's been a while since I have done this, and I see that the price of the disc, has gone up to $169. I understand that if I preorder the disc, I would save $50. I am considering the purchase for my 5 days in the parks this August.

Now what is the difference between the disc, and the Memory Maker? My gut tells me that the Memory Maker does not come with a disc. I understand that it does include additional photopass pictures that might be taken such as special meals and the ride photos.

I really do like having my pictures on a disc, so that I can do exactly what I like with them. I have in the past, always left Disney World with my Disc. I am not interested in added borders, and other enhancements.

Can someone please explain all the differences.

Memory Maker does not include an actual disc, it's download only.

Thanks for the reply. After reading the various info on the websites, I thought perhaps I was missing something. I am glad now that I did not order the Memory Maker. I really do like having the disc.

I still think the price is steep, especially for 5 days in the park. It would be nice if they could prorate it some how.

PhotoPass does not come with the meal or ride pictures either. Those are about the only differences I notice. You can get digital downloads or the CD with the PhotoPass Archive CD.

I am not interested in any meal or ride pictures. I am contemplating preordering the disc, only because I travel alone, and using the photopass photographers as much as possible means that I can be in a lot more of my pictures. I am not sure how many character meet and greets have photopass photographers at them. I have been reading about all the meet and greets, and there are many more than there used to be.

Bottom line. I need to figure out if I am likely to get enough good photos to make the expense worth it. I have a while to decide since my trip is not until August.

To OP, I hadn't previously purchased PP but this trip, I purchased PP+ and have a voucher. I was very happy about the inclusion of the CD. Don't know how I feel about download only but others on this board have had good results and were able to view photos the same day in their rooms.

Slightly off topic to others here, will my PP+ purchase be honored as is come October or will they try to force Memory Maker as a substitute?

Are there locations in the parks where I can view my photos and have my preordered Archive Disc made? I'd really like to return home with it. I am not into borders, and such. This is the way I have done it in the past, at both Disney World, and Disneyland.

Why not just order MM ahead of time for $149, download them when you get home, and burn your own CD? Cheaper, yes?

Yes, about 16 months in advance....serious planner with obsessive spreadsheets here.

Wow, I thought I ordered mine early, but you doubled the time for ordering ahead! I also have PP+ and would have been happy with MM but it seems to be the same product aside from download vs disc

Yes, much more cost effective. In fact, even with my regular PP or PP+ CD's the first thing I do is transfer them all to a memory stick because I find the CD's take longer to open and the USB sticks are more portable, but either way, you can back them up for next to nothing at home.

I bought memory maker and downloaded all the pictures myself. Then burned them to a CD myself.

I guess we could have bought a CD for 30 and got the stock photos as well, but meh. I just burned it myself

Preordering the Photopass Archiver's Disc is $119. Preordering the Memory Maker is $149. The disc is cheaper. I don't care about those ride and meal photos. I always stop everywhere that I see a photopass photographer, and I have many times had well over a hundred pictures taken. This is even when I travel alone. Disney has always offered to make me the disc in the parks before. Just curious if they still do this. The last time I bought a photopass disc was 2 years ago at Disneyland and 6 years ago at Disney World. I assume there must be Photopass places in the parks.

Just another quick question....

We will be going with daughters on their first trip in November, which means character meals. If I have my camera, will the photopass photographers take pictures with my camera? If I can have them do that, I am happy with the photopass cd, like we've always done.

PhotoPass photographers don't come around to the tables at character meals, though. I don't think there are even character handlers, although I haven't done a character meal in a few years, so I may be wrong about that.

Correct, no PP photogs at the tables. At both 1900 PF breakfast and H&V dinner there were handler type CM's with headsets. They were pretty relaxed, but moved characters along quickly and made sure they got to tables that didn't see them yet.
