I've rented a 20 inch 'lite' transport wheelchair through ScooterBug for a trip beginning this Thursday. The need for the wheelchair is a very recent one, and I have some mobility. I'd like to be able to push the wheelchair myself, but I read in another thread that the wheels on the transport is very small and can't be self-propelled.

Does anyone have experience with this type of chair through ScooterBug?

I'll be with a group with people who can help push, and I'll be able to walk some too (just not the five plus miles I usually walk at WDW). But I've used a chair before by myself, and I was hoping I'd be able to do this during our trip.

Answering my own post! I was away from a phone for a while and asked here in hopes someone would be able to answer quickly; but I got away from work earlier than normal and was able to call ScooterBug.

The answer is, yes, the 'lite transport' does have the larger wheels in back and can be self propelled by the user.

There was some confusion in other posts about this, I think due to the 'transport' in the chair's title. I know hospital transport chairs often have four little wheels and have to be pushed by someone else. I'm glad to know this one isn't like that!

What's makes it different from a standard wheelchair or transport chair? A blend of both chairs????

According to the description, it’s “lightweight aluminum” at 31lbs, compared to 48lbs for the extra-wide made with a “durable steel frame” or even the 33lb pediatric chair.

I had the transport chairs from scooterbug for my parents and I too can confirm they are not the small wheeled transport chairs that I had seen sold in stores. I actually emailed scooterbug before reserving them to make sure they were wheelchairs with the large back wheels and they promptly replied to me. They don’t have good pictures on their website at all.

Or what make/model of wheelchairs, powerchairs, or scooters they offer. Scootaround and Special Needs at Sea does the same thing (for cruise rentals).

For somebody like me who’s a “Wheelchair Connoisseur”, I’d like to know what I’m getting beforehand so I know if I’m renting a Ferrari (TiLite, Quickie, Motion Composites, Ki Mobility in the Manual Market and Quantum, Permie, and Quickie in the Powerchair Market) vs. a Honda (Invacare, Drive in the Manual Market and Jazzy and Hoveround in the Powerchair Market).
