I assume you are buying an Oct Use Year and this is a typo meaning 30 Sept as they expire the end of the UY. You will need to wait until 60 days out but remember that each day is looked at individually. On 15 July, you'd only be able to book one day and then add to it day by day if you wanted.

September 3 is 60 days in advance of July 5, the day the OP posted. So I think the website was telling him that as of yesterday, he could use the holding points to book up to and including September 3.

If he wants to book the night of September 13, he can book that night on July 15 as he states. Then he can book 9/14 on July 16 and etc.

Thanks, was thinking this was part of a purchase for some reason.

I am new at this I have a Dec use year with 164 points available to use now I believe 132 are from 2010 and the rest were borrowed from 2012 the seller had reservations and cancelled them out now the points are split up into 2 parts 105 in holding the other 59 points are available to use when I want until Nov 30th they had banked all of the 200 points from 2011 so those I cant use till after Dec 1st 2012. I want to go to AKV on Sept 13 for 5 nights and stay in a 1 bedroom which is available now but in order to do that I have to wait until July 13 to start booking one night at a time. I believe the first 3 nights will get me past the 105pt mark which is the points in holding. So I can wait until 15th to book the entire 5 days? DVC will use the 105 first then the balance of the remainder for the trip from the 59

Thank you

Yes, waiting until July 15 to book all 5 nights should work (assuming there is still availability, and I think there will be). Just explain to MS that you want to use the holding points up first.

Don't know if you can book with holding points online, but it might be worth a try on the 15th if you are so inclined. AFAIK, the system will ask you which points you want to use. If it doesn't, you can always cancel and then call MS.

Good luck!

The Online Reservation System will let you book a reservation using points in Holding status. After you have selected your accommodation and number of nights and before you confirm (accept) the reservation, the Online System shows you the number of points that you had BEFORE the reservation and what you will after AFTER the reservation. The points are broken out by type of points: Previously borrowed points; previously banked points; transferred in; current annual allotment; available to borrow from future Use Year; and Holding points. If you have multiple deeds, then a point breakout is shown for each deed. If you don't like how the points were drawn from your deeds, you can change the order before the reservation is confirmed.

By the way: When using Holding points, you can book as many as 7 consecutive nights when your 60-day window opens. You don't have to do each night individually.

THANK YOU TO ALL I have waited to be A DVC member for along time and finally basically a dream come true I have stayed at the value and moderate resorts but now can stay at the deluxe accommodations . I have waited 25 years for this

The member website says holding points can be used 60 days or less before check-in date. Doesn't say anything about a limit on the number of nights you can book.

Holding Account

A Holding Account is a "parking space" for Vacation Points from a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation that has been modified or cancelled 30 days to 1 day before your scheduled check-in date. Here are some guidelines regarding usage of Holding Account Vacation Points.

These Vacation Points can be used for a new Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation during your current Use Year as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.
These Vacation Points can also be used for a new reservation during your current Use Year in two ways:
For the Disney Collection* (except Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels), Concierge Collection*, or Adventurer Collection*, you can make the reservation more than four months before the end of your Use Year for a check-in date that is 60 or less days before the new check-in date.
For Disneyland Resort in California and Tokyo Disney Resort hotels, or the World Passport Collection, as long as the reservation is booked 60 or less days before the new check-in date.
* Available when you purchase directly from Disney.

By the way: When using Holding points, you can book as many as 7 consecutive nights when your 60-day window opens. You don't have to do each night individually.

Good to know. Thanks for mentioning this. I always thought it was a strict 60 days in advance kind of a rule.

It doesn't say it, but I think it has the same limitations as other points when making future reservations. Like if using points when the Home Resort window opens, we can initially only book up to 7 nights when the window first opens. If we want more than 7 nights, we have to wait at least a day to tack on an additional night. Same is true with using points in Holding Status. When the 60-day window opens, we can initially book 7 nights, and than will need to call back day by day to add subsequent nights.

Of course, I could be wrong. When I recently made a reservation using points in Holding Status I was already past my 60-day window so I was able to book all 10 nights in a single transaction.

I have holding points to use (for the first time ever) and I recently asked MS if I would be able to book more than one night at the 60-day point to use them. They said I would be able to make a reservation for more than the one night, so hoping you are right.

technically reservations are day by day. Some systems count points used day 1 of a reservation, other, like DVC, count them as a separate day by day. I hope they will let you book them all day 1 but I'm doubtful without any direct experience. It'd be the same principle as making a 7 day reservation the last day of your UY using points that would expire.

Jumping in with a similar question -

I have a reservation for October 2012, already booked

I may be booking a reservation for this July (yes, this July!) but am afraid I may have to cancel it in full or part if schedules don't work out.

Is there any way I can use the Holding Account points from the July reservation for the October reservation, once the July reservation is cancelled and I am within the 60 day requirement?

I would like to be able to use the Holding Account points and send the October reservation points back to the current use year.

Or can I only use Holding Account points for completely new reservations? :)

They will only put the holding points into your October reservation if there is availability for your room. If it's soldout, then you can't move the holding points, that would defeat the purpose of the holding account. You can't do it 30 days or less or the current points in the reservation would become holding points.

as stated, you'd basically have to cancel nights (from the start or end) of the oct reservation and rebook with holding pts...and that assumes there are villas available besides the ones you'd be cancelling.

I think you've gotten the technical answer but you can always ask. The chance of some days being available to use some or all of them depends on the specifics of your reservation and somewhat on luck. If you get in this situation, call and ask and keep calling to get any days added that would fall between 30 & 60 days.

Thank you so much for all the replies! :goodvibes

I think I understand the cancelling and rebooking if available. I was very pleased to learn from DVC the cancellation window was 1 day and the points would still go into holding.

The good news is, I'm 99% sure I'll be heading to WDW this July, and won't have to worry about holding points this time around! :cool1:
