Question regarding UO A/P activation date (sure this has been asked before)

I'm sure this has been asked-- I tried to search this forum and couldn't find the answer.

We are going to UO in June 2022, have rooms at Royal Pacific booked. If I were to buy an annual pass for me only, to get any applicable room discounts (I know I'll have to wait and see) and food discounts, would the Annual Pass be considered activated the date I bought it online ahead of time or not considered activated until I use it for the first time? Wondering about the expiration date and whether it pays to buy ahead of time or wait until right before the trip.

I'm looking at purchasing through either TicketsAtWork.com or directly from UO website ahead of time

Is the process that I buy a voucher ahead of time & 'cash' it in at the ticket desk at the resort to activate it?

Thanks in advance.

The pass is activated upon first use. We purchased APs in March and picked them up from the Guest Services desk at Royal Pacific in October and they expire in October, 2022.

The UO AP is activated the first time you use it

Quite a few peeps stay onsite and booked their room with a Ap Discount

Once your ap is active, check back with the hotel front desk to show your valid ap

Your booked room rate will be adjusted to it

I just wanted to ask a follow-up question to the OP. I do understand that the clock for UOAP expiration starts when picked-up and activated. Does this extend to future years?
I purchased a UOAP earlier this year for a planned trip in December 2022. Now, it appears that I will not be able to go until December 2023.
Has anyone experienced that? Do the same rules apply to activation of a UOAP that was purchased over a year go?

I would contact UO by phone/ letter for an extension for the pass you bought

You should be okay. I bought a new annual pass at the end of September 2020 (there was a promo and I knew that I'd be back once the pandemic had eased) and activated it without an issue in November 2021.

The only thing I would recommend is that you a) print out your confirmation email or save it somewhere easy to find in your inbox. Scrolling through years worth of emails when you go to pick it up can be a hassle and b) if you have any promos attached, make sure that you have documentation about them. While activating my AP wasn't a problem, I didn't realize that they didn't apply the promo until a few days later. It took awhile to fix it at guest services as they needed to go back through their records to find the promo. If I had a dated screenshot or email with the promo details, it would have been much easier to fix.

Thank you! This is incredibly helpful! I appreciate it!

Related question: We have annual passes that we upgraded from multi-day tickets last fall. (One was upgraded twice to get us around blackout dates) I know that upgrading doesn't affect the expiration date; it's always one year from the date of first use. My question is: are the passes still good ON the expiration date? We're considering a Disney trip over the same break this fall, but the idea popped that maybe we'd rather do a day at Universal (since we already have the pass) at the start of the trip rather than hitting a park two days or wasting a day at Animal Kingdom.

If you want to confirm your expiration date, the easiest way to do it is to link your ticket inside the Universal app. That will show you the current expiration date.
I know the date. The question is.... is it good for admission on that date or not?
