Am I missing something? Last year I made a reservation on SW. I rebooked as I found the rate had gone down so I had a refund coming at a later date. Is that now a 'credit'?, not a dollar amount?:confused3

Yes, SW's policy has always been that you receive a credit towards future travel, good for 1 year from the date of your original purchase.

It hasn't always been a 'credit' because I used a previous refund on that trip.

At one time, you were issued a refund (dollar amount) if you bought standard fare (not the "wanna get away" fare). If you bought the "Wanna Get Away" fare, it was issued in a credit for a future flight. That was always my experience. Now, this may have changed with all the recent changes.

You can get a refund if you have purchased the "ANYTIME" fare or the "BUSINESS SELECT" fare. If you purchased the cheaper "GET AWAY" fare then it is a credit that is issued. Last year you must have purchased one of the upper two fares.

My company always purchases the "ANYTIME" fare because our schedules change often. When we make changes to our reservations if there is any difference we can "RECEIVE A REFUND" or keep it as a credit for the next flight.

I purchased last fall "wanna get away" and it was a dollar amount credit. Not to be found now:sad1:

I might be way off, but was your refund something that actually got to your credit card, or was it something on your account? The something on your account was a credit in a dollar amount. Which is how I believe it still is.

If I'm understanding your situation correctly, you should have some Ticketless Travel Funds in your account. They can be used for future travel for one year from the date the original trip was booked, assuming you did not use any TTFs when you purchased that reservation, otherwise they will expire even earlier. Go to this page within Southwest's website: https://www.southwest.com/flight/travel-funds-search.html and enter the first and last name of the passenger and the confirmation number of the original reservation. It should display the amount of the credit you have, whether it is refundable or non-refundable, and the expiration date. The expiration date is the date that any travel using those funds must be completed.

If you book another flight with a travel date prior to the expiration date of the funds, you will have the option to apply travel funds to the reservation. When you click the "apply travel funds" button (or whatever it is called), the list of available funds is displayed. If you have more than one you can choose which credits to apply.

There are other rules regarding the use of Ticketless Travel Funds so you should read more posts here about using them or search for more info on Southwest's website.

Thanks LisaS. I couldn't find it myself. It shows I have $10.00 but expires April 14. However, I booked last fall and this expires 4/14.Oh well. I hope some good rates come out soon!!

If you book a flight using Ticketless Travel Funds and then rebook that flight at a lower price, the fund credits take on the earliest expiration date from any TTFunds you used to pay for that flight.

It's easier to explain with an example. You book a flight on 4/14/10 for Oct 2010. Months later you rebook that Oct 2010 flight and get $5 credit with a 4/14/11 expiration date. In September you book a flight for March 2011 and apply that $5 credit. You later rebook that March 2011 flight for $10 less. You now have a $10 credit but still with a 4/14/11 expiration date because of the TTFunds you used when you booked that flight.
