Hi.

Last week, I put my dd's bedroom set up for sale on various groups on FB.

I had a couple of inquiries from women but nothing came of them, I lowered the price since I just want it out of her room
and then yesterday posted on below sites:
craigslist
OfferUp
Letgo

Within a few minutes, I had two people inquire from craigslist (both men) and one immediately from OfferUp.
I just think it is strange that within minutes three people, all men, wanted my dd's bedroom set. I know men can look
for their dd's bedroom sets but in my experience, it is usually the mom, but whatever. What I find was strange that it
was only listed a matter of minutes before someone is asking to pick up tomorrow or Thursday, gave a time and
asked me to send him my cell phone, which is fine, I guess that is how we would communicate.

I will only take cash and it is pick up only. I am married and have a dh that would be home. Has anyone used
the above sites to sell their items and did you have success (or not)?

Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as A. your DH will be home when they pick up and B. you only accept cash, both of which I see that you already have covered.

They are probably flippers looking to resell at a profit, although we did recently sell a child's bed to a man who was buying furniture for his girlfirend's kids as they were all moving in with him and had nothing at their current house except air mattresses.

Does anyone know why on "Offer Up" people ask me to resend the information to a personal email address?
Also, two people already asked if I can send them my information and a check and wait for a check to clear for pick up.
I was going to answer but have decided those people aren't worth my even discussing with any longer but I am more
interested as to why someone already has the information from OfferUp but now wants in their emails.
I opened a new email account/name so they won't have my personal although not sure it matters.
Thank you.

I've never used Offer Up but if they aren't meeting your terms of sale - i.e. cash only - I wouldn't bother responding to them.

Thank you. That is what I am doing but why are quite a few asking me to send the same exact information to a personal email? What difference would that make? That is what I am not getting but I am also not that trusting of strangers either. Thanks.

They do that to get around the security of the site email. Tell them no thanks on both accounts (email and check). When you put stuff online, you'll get a lot of scammers, unfortunately. That's why I donate most stuff now, if feasible.

Thank you very much. That is what I thought too.

I'm pretty sure LetGo has something in place where it will let you know if information in a message indicates a possible scam so people wanting to email outside the app are most likely up to no good. (DH handles our LetGo sales and I think he and I discussed this when someone messaged him asking if we would take PayPal instead of cash.)

Not everyone who offers PayPal is a scammer. On a few occasions I have found something at a really good price and I wanted to assure them that I was a serious buyer. There are lots of people who say they are coming to get something, only to waste my time. If I see something that I really want, I have messaged the seller saying I can pick up and will bring cash but would send a Venmo or PayPal deposit to show I am serious. Most won't take you up on it but it has gotten me the edge on some items. For example, I saw a beautiful table and chairs set on Craigslist and it was a BARGAIN! My offering up some cash via online tools got me to the front of the line. That dining set is still in my breakfast area. Selling stuff on Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Groups, Craigslist is rather the wild, wild, west. Promptness and cash are king. I am always amazed at how many people will contact me saying they are "interested" and want to pick it up days later. Um no! If another buyer says that they can be there today, with cash then they get the sale. I am not a retail shop.
