Hi all! I am planning a trip to Disney with my daughters in March and I really want to spend the week at a vacation club resort, but have never rented points before. What are the pros and cons of renting points...or should I just stick to going to a moderate resort? We have been to the boardwalk a few times for weddings, but never spent the night. We usually hit the Port orleans french quaters because my kids love the pool!
Also, have there ever been any horror stories with renting points?
I am trying to reassure my husband that this is a great idea, but he is scared to send money.
Thanks for any replies!!!!

You should read the sticky notes on the rent trade board. Usually everything goes fine with renting points. It is a definite savings for staying in larger deluxe accomodations. The only thing you must remember when renting points is that the member has full control over your reservation. They have to book the meal plan and any special requests. Also each member may have a contract, which could differ by member, about payment and cancellation terms. Don't worry feel out the renter.......it will be fine.

Gina...first of all, WELCOME to the Dis Boards! :)

I think the thread at the following link is an excellent one for people renting points. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1255828

It is important to understand that renting points (actually buying a reservation from a member is more accurate) is a personal transaction between yourself and a DVC member. Disney has absolutely no part in the agreement and won't step in to settle any dispute. Renting points takes trust on the part of both the owner and the renter, and there is risk on both sides.

Read the thread at the link I've provided and you'll see a lot of very good advice.

Renting points is an outstanding way to experience the great DVC villas at a fraction of what they would cost by reserving through Disney. With that big savings comes the risk.

Not trying to scare you away....transactions are completed every day successfully without a hitch. But be a good consumer and do your homework!

Good luck! :)

Depending on when you want to go in March, you may be too late. If you are looking at the end of the month, Spring Break and Easter reservations may have all the villas booked.
