Question Regarding Rebooking While On Board...

Hi All!

In just twenty minutes it will be midnight Eastern Standard Time and our upcoming cruise will be a mere 90 days away  which got me to thinking...

I want to rebook while I am on board but, ideally, I would like to book for my DH and myself and also for additional family members to join us. Can I book for folks who are not on the cruise with me while we are on board?

Also, is there a limit to the number of future dates you can book and still get the perks? Oh and if I want to use my TA to get the additional incentives I still need to make the reservation on board and then transfer it to the TA, right?

Oh, and one last thing, anyone got a ball park for how much I need to be looking at putting down as a downpayment?

Any help/advice here will be most appreciated.

Thanks, and take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

You can book the same number of reservations as you have people on your current cruise (although others have reported being allowed to book more!). That means that if you and spouse are cruising, you can book 2 reservations. If you are a family of 6 on this cruise, you can book 6. A reservation is a cabin on a cruise regardless of number of people in it. SO, if you are allowed 2 reservations, you could book one cabin for yourself and however many family members, and another cabin for the inlaws.

Yes, you can book for people who are not on your cruise.

The deposit amount depends on what you book It will be 10% of the cruise cost. You can also book a cruise that you have no intention of sailing (a cheap 3 night, for instance) and move the cruise dates later--you will keep all the benefits of the onboard booking. These are 10% off the "cruise fare" portion of the ticket, 10% deposit instead of 20%, and an onboard credit based on your CC status and the length of your cruise.

If you move the cruise dates, the onboard credit increases/decreases to whatever is appropriate to the cruise that you actually SAIL, not to what you originally booked.

Some more expert cruisers might have better intel on the booking of family/friends but my understanding is that the rebooking agents have flyers (with a code maybe, I don't know we didn't get one) for family and friends--the deal isn't as sweet, you can book one additional cabin, same cruise, and you get the onboard credit or the 10% off --forget which but definitely not both.

As for your downpayment, search for the cruise you want, deduct 10% and take 10% of that, this should be your downpayment.

You can book multiple cruises onboard. Last cruise I made 3 reservation (with separate dates). You can make a reservation with just yourself and add people to the reservation at a later date. When you get home you can transfer the reservation to your travel agent and get there perks also! A big advantage to having several reservation out there is you can move the date when the new itineraries are released and still get the onboard discount!

I'm going to ask a follow up question to this.

So my next cruise there will be 4 of us. 2 Adults and 2 Children.

Can I book 4 cabins while onboard as long as I book an adult with each of the children?

So could I book these dummy cruises
Cabin 1 - 1A - me
Cabin 2 - 1A - DH
Cabin 3 - 1A1C - Sis and DD1
Cabin 4 - 1A1C - Dad and DD2

When I make the final reservations would I have to keep the reservations as listed. Ultimately we would have the following sleeping arrangements
Cabin 1 - 2A (mom and dad)
Cabin 2 - 2A (me and DH)
Cabin 3 - connection 4C (17, 14, 10 and 6)
Cabin 4 - 2A (sis and BIL)

Obviously I would not have the rooms booked as shown in #2

So would I just have to keep the peopel I booked in each room and add people as necessary to make the rooms work?

You may want to go ahead and book the correct number of adults/children. People have had difficulty at times adding to reservations as the ship fills up. The muster stations and kid's clubs fill up and then they have had difficulty adding their families.

We also name our TA at the time of booking, as some don't give full credit when transferring an existing reservation.

As far as the multiple cabins, you pay full fare for the first two people, so it doesn't matter if you list them as adult or child. Having just one person, you will pay more than 1/2 of 1 people as they treat it as a single booking.

Have a great time on your cruise. The 10% deposit is great! If I'm not mistaken, you can list CC members in some of the other rooms and those will qualify for the OBC, too. Disney doesn't care where everyone sleeps in the end, but it might help out some!

I am a travel agent and if you transfer the reservation from DCL to Agent the commissions are less therefore less to give back in onboard credit. You can book using your agent onboard just let them know at the time of booking. If the cruise you are on was booked with the agent they already have their info. in your reservation.

You are thinking of the friends/family certificate which is different than what the OP is asking. The OP can book additional reservations for other people and get the same onboard perks (10% and the current OBC for the itinerary they book). The person making the reservations for other friends or family must put down the deposit for those people when they book onboard.

Now, the friends/family certificate is supposed to be left in your cabin before you leave the ship and is for friends or family that you did not book onboard. The certificate entitles them to the OBC but not the 10% discount. The F/F cert must be used with 30 days of the onboard booking date (not the last day of the cruise) and must be for the same cruise as the person booked onboard.

Someone onboard can't book a date and then give the certificate to someone when they get home and that person book a cruise for a different date...it must be same cruise as the person who booked onboard.

Last time I was onboard I booked for my BIL and his wife who were not on the ship with us. I put down the deposit for them for their cruise...they will receive the same 10% discount and OBC as I got. When I got home I gave the F/F certificate to a friend who then booked the same future cruise and they got a $200 OBC.

Hope that was not too confusing.

This brought a separate question to mind (sorry if I'm butting in).

Last September, I booked on board for a cruise in October. I was silver at the time. I am cruising in August which will make me gold. Will this then increase the OBC on my October cruise since I will be gold at the time of sailing or will it remain at silver which I was when I booked it. It's only a 4-day cruise so I don't think there is that much difference but every bit helps.

Good question....my experience in a related matter (not exactly what you are asking) is before they upped the OBC for platinum members to $350 I had booked a future cruise date onboard. I knew I would get the current OBC which was $200. But, when I recently checked that ressie there was $350 on it as an OBC so it looks like they upped automatically when they increased the Platinum OBC to $350.

My experience is that you don't have to spread out your family members just to have someone from the current reservation in every room so you could book as in #2 (with the exception of needing an adult in the connecting room for booking, not sleeping, purposes). So if you have 4 people sailing and want to reserve 4 rooms to include other people not currently sailing, feel free to put the names in the cabins you want (you may want to spread them out so you get CC perks in each cabin) as long as you are prepared to make the deposits for everyone. (Remember to bring everyone's birthdate, home address and phone numbers! We had a hard time remembering my brother's zip code!)

As far as the Travel Agent others asked about, I agree with the comments to add them to your reservation while you are making it on board. If it is the same one who made the reservation you are sailing under, it is easy just make sure to mention it to the re-booking agent. If you are using a different TA or you booked yourself and want to use a TA for onboard credits, have their phone number (the main agency number) to identify them to be added to your res.
