Question Regarding Groceries?????

Has anyone bought groceries at home before the trip and had it mailed to your DVC Resort?

I have a trip planned for May and we were thinking of getting groceries for the room to help save on dining expenses.

I know there is a Grocery list on the DVC Member website that you can use to have groceries ordered to the room.

I was just curious if anyone had preferred to have their own groceries delivered from home and how that worked out.

Like how far in advance of arriving did you send the groceries and did they survive the trip and make it to the room with no problems.

Just curious.

This doesn't exactly answer your question, since we drive to Disney and can take things with us.

We wait until we're there and then go to one of the grocery stores for almost everything.

However, DW does put together the basics package before we leave, and take it with us. Things you need a little of but don't want to buy the larger size once we get to Orlando. She puts them into small jars, or ziplock bags. Just enough to meet our needs. Things such as sugar, salt/pepper, condiments, etc.

If you're going to ship anything, you might also consider doing something like this also. Just enough sugar for the cereal we think we'll be eating, and so on.

We just ordered with Garden Grocer and they have been fantastic. It's only a $10 delivery fee with a $50 minimum. Grocery prices were comparable to our local grocery store. Save yoruself the hassle! spent the postage on the delivery fee and you'll walk away even with all your groceries in one piece!

There are a few services that will deliver groceries to your resort for you. Wegoshop is one that I know of, and I am sure there are others.

There are 2 grocery stores within a reasonable distance from WDW if you have a car. One is the Publix on SR 192. The other is a Winn-Dixie, whic is just outside the gates of Hotel Plaza Boulevard. You go out that gate, take a left and it is about 10 minutes down that road on the right. If you go out that Hotel Plaza Boulevard gate, don't go to Goodings. They are outrageously expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't have a car, a lot of the limo services will allow for a grocery stop if you book them that way.

We also do as caskbill does and pack a few of the more common things (salt & pepper, coffee, coffee filters, sugar & Splenda packets, dryer sheets, hot chocolate, tea bags) in Ziplocs and take it with us...basically, we pack stuff that can be pretty flat and squeeze into spaces in the suitcase. We pack coffee because my DH loves Starbucks Sumatra coffee, so it is a treat for him.

I'm assuming you did this online? I will not be renting a car on this trip, so I won't have access to transportation to go to a grocery store in the area.

How far in advance of you arriving at your DVC resort did you place your order? Does Garden Grocer allow you to choose a delivery date?

I assume the DVC resorts are onboard with Garden Grocer making deliveries to the their resorts? Who handles having the groceries actually put in your room, DVC or Garden Grocer?

Sorry for the all the questions. This will be my first time doing something like this, I just want to have all the bases covered. Thank you to you and everyone else who have shared their thoughts and experiences.

We just ordered a bunch of groceries with them on Thurday for an upcoming trip. Its very easy....shop online and pay them via paypal. At the end there will be an informaion box for your arrival times and such. Friday I ended up getting a call from them though just to firm things up, not really sure if they do that regualrly or not. Since I won't be around for the delivery they are going to leave it with bell services....they are used to delivering to the Disney resorts......Good Luck

Brownie,

If I won't be around for the delivery do I need to tell Garden Grocer this at the time of my ordering, or will they know to leave my groceries with bell services if I'm not there?

They will go right to bell services. Bell services can check to see if your in or not. If not, they have refrigertators for storage. They told me that I will have to pick up the groceries at the desk when I get in. Apparently they know the routine pretty good. I have read a lot of good things about garden grocers here
