Hi,

We're leaving for Disney on Thursday morning! :cool1:
Just wondering about DME and customs. We will be flying from our hometown to Toronto, then to Orlando, all Air Canada. Do we need to pick up our luggage in Orlando, or is DME able to take care of it? I know they normally do, but not sure where we are not flying within the US only. I know we have to pick it up and go through in Toronto, but not sure how it will work in Orlando. Please Clarify...

Thanks! :thumbsup2

you will collect your luggage in Toronto and go through securityagain and customs there... DME can collect your bags if so you choose.

DME works for all airlines arriving at Orlando international airport. If your luggage arrives with DME tags, it will be taken care of.

Unfortunately, because you're connecting in Canada, you'll have to get all your luggage re-screened for US departure in Toronto. This may be the ideal time to add the DME luggage tags. However, sometimes your treck through the airport is huge. Be prepared for the YYZ marathon!

For the return trip, you cannot check your bags and print boarding passes at the resort. (You can use the resort luggage storage between when you check out and when you catch your ME bus.) You will have to take all your bags on ME buses to the airport, and collect your boarding passes at an Air Canada kiosk or service counter at the airport. In Toronto, you'll have to collect all your bags again, go through Canadian customs, then re-check your baggage and catch your connecting flight. (Yet another YYZ marathon!)

Good luck!

p.s. I did this once flying from Orlando to Ottawa via Toronto, exhausted from our WDW vacation. The experience left me jaded. I've developed a bias towards other carriers that connect in the US, where I never need to handle my luggage and go through security again.

A friend just went to WDW, connecting through Montreal (their first time) and I told them not to tag their bags until they collect their bags at customs in Montreal. I got an email from them later that day saying they didn't get to handle their bags at all going through Montreal, so they never had the chance to put their ME tags on. They had to collect their bags and take them to ME at MCO. :confused3 I always thought you had to "touch" your bags when you're connecting. Weird. Maybe it's just a Montreal thing!

Yes, it's new with Montreal. You used to have to pick up your bags in YUL to go through customs, but it has since changed. My sister and her family just experienced that a few weeks ago. I checked on the Montreal airport site, and you no longer need to pick up your bags to go through Customs. Not sure why they changed it, and why it's not changed in Toronto, but that's how it is now in Montreal.

To the OP if your yellow DME tags are on your luggage, when you arrive in Orlando, you go straight to DME and they will take care of your luggage for you. Because you did Customs in Toronto, you don't have to in Orlando.

I agree with that suggestion and others have mentioned doing that when they were doing the same thing as the OP.

we've always put the tags on at home and have never had a problem, whether connecting in Montreal or .T.O. from ottawa.

We've always put the ME tags on before leaving home whether we are flying direct or through Toronto and it's never been a problem. I wouldn't wait until Toronto. Much too rushed.

1. Put the yellow tags on at home because, it is possible that at customs the bags may be whisked away from you before you have an opportunity to put the yellow tags on.

2. DME can still handle the bags for you with no yellow tags, no need to go to the carousel.

2a. After 10 PM, everyone must go to the carousel even if bags are yellow tagged.

3. Some international travelers will clear or reclear customs in Orlando. The procedure is really not any different, you can put the bags on another conveyor belt in the customs area and DME will take over from there.
