Question regarding base tickets

I have assumed that base tickets work like this: Each time you enter a park, you have used one day of your allotted base tickets. For instance, if I have a 3 day base ticket, and I go to 3 different parks in one day, I have used all 3 allotments I have. Is that correct?

Here is why I ask...
DH and I have a trip planned in two weeks. We currently have 7 day base tickets. We usually buy hoppers and really like the flexibility of it; However, we maybe only "hop" a couple of times during a week long trip. We have considered upgrading to 7 day park hoppers which will be an additional $128. It would only cost us $60 total to upgrade to 10 day base tickets which would allow us to "hop" 3 times in our seven day stay. That's a savings of $68 and would likely be all we need. Before we make our decision, I want to be sure we could actually use a base ticket twice in one day at two different parks.

Thanks! :)

It doesn't work that way. A one day ticket is good for the whole day. If you go in and out of the park you are still using the one day. If you upgrade to ten day tickets then you can go to parks for ten days, not three parks on one day.

That's how it's worked in the past, and I believe it's still true. If you have a non-hopper and enter a 2nd, different park on the same day it "burns" a 2nd day off of your ticket.

Thanks for your reply. I understand it works like that if you go to the same park twice in a day. I am wondering if you will be allowed to enter a different park in the same day, as long as you are willing to use another day's worth of tickets.

Thanks! I have considered just calling and asking a CM, but I know that the information given here can at times be far more reliable than talking to a call center cast member!

No. It has never worked that way. If you visit one park and attempt to enter another park that same day with a multi-day non-hopper it will not burn another day and it will not let you enter the second park. You must have the hopper feature to enter multiple parks on a single day using the same ticket. You could, of course, use two completely separate one-day or multi-day tickets to enter more than one park in a day but that would be very expensive.

If the tickets are the same media, then no. Disney tickets are days not entries. So, a 3 day ticket only allows you to enter a 1 park each day. It would stop you from entering a second park on the same day without the hopper. If you have 3 separate 1 day tickets, then you could use each ticket for an entry on the same day.

Thanks, everyone! It looks like upgrading to the hoppers is in our future. I am glad that I asked instead of just assuming... as we all know what that does...

Just in case someone else comes along...the quoted post above is absolutely NOT TRUE, and it has never been true. If you want to go to two different main parks in one day you MUST have the park hopper option.

However, if you are talking about the Water Parks & More option, you CAN visit two different water parks in the same day, and it will "burn" 2 days off that option. So if you have a 4-day WP&M ticket, you have 4 entries into the WP&M. If you go to two on the same day, you only have two left.

Sorry, that was my recollection. It was not an attempt to misinform.

It might have worked like that in the past when a multi-day ticket was really just a collection of single day tickets (and priced that way). Since Disney front-loads the price of multi-day tickets, they don't allow you to enter two different parks on a single day. If you look at the pricing, a 10-day base ticket is less expensive than a 5-day hopper. That's on purpose, and it's not a loophole.

My recollection is that when a multi-day ticket was just a collection of single day tickets, park-hopping was always included. Or maybe it was just included on the 5-day tickets but not the 4-day. I believe they just had blank spaces, and stamped the date in the next available space for the first park of the day, but when hopping, you used the re-entry line, showed the ticket and the handstamp. In any event, in all my previous trips, I never paid extra for the pure privilege of park hopping.

Though I won't claim that my recollections are any more reliable than the PP's erroneous recollection.

That is incorrect. You don't have 3 tickets, you have 1 ticket that is good for 3 different operating days and expires 14 days after you first use it. It once worked as you mentioned but that stopped awhile ago...

You can get 3 individual tickets or 1 multiday ticket with park hopper to enter more than 1 park on the same day (and any/every day your tickets are good for). Park hopper is the lower cost. annual passes also let you go between parks in the same day just to be complete on my information.

If you are not sure about whether you will use the hopping you can buy the base and add on the hopping when/if you decide to hop. Just be aware that even if you are on day 5 of the tickets and adding hopper, you still have to pay the price for adding it to all 7 days (yes, even the ones you already used). I was not sure about hopping on our last trip and the difference in ticket $$ actually was almost enough to cover our Sea World tickets so I bought base and figured if we absolutely had to we would add hopping. We never even considered it so I am glad we didn't spend the $$ up front for something we didn't want or need.

The cost is the SAME PRICE for adding the Hopper to a 5-day base ticket or a 7-day base ticket, anyway.
It is not charged "per day."

Adding the Hopper to a one-day ticket is a one-time cost of $40.

Adding the Hopper to a two-day or three-day ticket is a one-time cost of $50.

Adding the Hopper to a four-day ticket is a one-time cost of $60.

Continuing... Adding the Hopper to a five-day thru ten-day ticket is a one-time cost of $60.

SPECIAL NOTE:
If you already have the Water Parks Fun and More option on your tickets,
adding the Hopper is a one-time, one-price fee of just $26 per ticket.

All prices, plus tax.

Then I'm guessing it's been a long time since you went to Disney or at least a long time since you park hopped at Disney.

Thank you for explaining far better than I did!

OP here- thanks for all the clarifications. We've decided to buy hoppers since we think we will definitely use them after all. I knew this was the place to get answers!

About 12 to 14 years. I know the two of us went for true millennium New Year (1/1/2001), but don't remember if our last family trip was before or after that.
