I have a 1 hour 15 minute stop over with US Air, in Washington DC, we are on the same plane and flight, I think it is called a direct flight but not a non stop anyway my question is can we all get off the plane and let the kids walk around and then re-board or do we have to stay on the plane.
I am hopeful we can get off and go to the restroom and move a bit but I am not sure what they do. I usually fly non stop so this a new thing to me.
thanks for any help!

You will need to put your belongings in the overhead bin. Take your boarding passes with you. You are then free to deplane and enjoy the airport. Usually when they start boarding the people from the first flight are allowed to board after the preferred flyers.

great! That is good to know, I think my kids will need to stretch their legs for that time instead of sitting for 4.5 hours straight

Its a huge airport. I don't know which terminal you will be in, but the one we were in (12/2004) for a two hour layover was a lot of fun. There are several flags overhead that the kids enjoyed watching, as well as restaurants/shops. Also from the far end of this terminal there was an area that you could see planes.

They usually make an announcement after the plane lands about what time to be back if you wish to deplane.

Don't be surprised if there's an "aircraft change", which means going to another gate, I've seen that happen.
