Question re. tipping

This will be my first time at WDW, and my family and I will be staying at the POFQ the week of September 24th. It is my wife, my two girls (age 8 and 5), and myself. How often and how much should I tip housekeeping? Do you tip every single day or once at the end of the stay? What is an appropriate tip? Where should I put the tip for housekeeping, and should I write a note letting them know that it's for them? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is one area of tipping that I have always been confused about. Thanks in advance!

Because, you may not have the same mousekeeper every day, you may want to leave a tip every day in place of at the end of the week. My rule is that I leave a dollar for every person that is staying in the room. Some people leave more and some leave less. I hope this will be of some help.

Thanks! Do you leave a note specifying that the money is a tip, and/or do you put the tip in a certain place?

Yes you should leave a note. You also may wish to leave it in the same location daily. Some good places seem to be the sink counter in the bathroom, on a bed pillow, or on the table in the room.

We tip $10 a night for the 2 of us. My mom was a house keeper for Opryland Hotel in Nashville.She would always say "some one left a tip for me today and I used it for my lunch. I figure if we can make someone's day or help them have something they need before payday then *GREAT*. It isn't that much since our room is $570 a night. I can spread some pixie dust thier way too.
