My wife and I are certified DCL addicts ( 8 cruises in 2 years). We live in Orlando and can get to the port on short notice.

We saw some great prices on a 4 day cruise from Port Canaveral on the SOTS, $199 pp on an inside cabin and $229 for an oceanview.

It ain't Disney but we thought that we might give this cruise a shot.

For those of you who have done both Disney and the SOTS, what are your thoughts or recommendations re: this non-Disney cruise?

Thanks.

We did SOS back in our early days of Disney cruising for comparison. The pros were:
-Good food and service (which we expect from RCCL)
-Although CocoaCay is different from Castaway Cay (not themed), we still enjoyed it a lot.

The cons were:
-Tiny staterooms
-The ship is definitely showing its age...it's clean but worn-looking
-No adults-only areas

It's not Disney, but for a really good price I think it would be worth a quickie trip.

Hi 1disfan! Husband and I did the SOS this past June, a year after doing the Wonder. I wrote a mini-review on these boards when we came back--you can check for this if the search function is working. We, too, got a great last minute deal on the SOS, and for the little money we paid, felt it was worth it. However, I wouldn't sail her again. We really missed the Wonder and its' atmosphere. The SOS is @14 years old, and although is kept in very good shape, is showing her age a little. Don't get me wrong, the SOS's service, activities, crew members, etc...were all very good, and there were several things I liked a little better about the SOS. But I must admit, on Disney we were spoiled. I think that if the SOS would have been our first cruise experience, we would have probably RAVED about it! But it just didn't compare to Disney. But this is just one woman's opinion, and I'm sure you may find others who have different views. I could write much more about both ships, so feel free to email me if you want to know more!

I said SOTS 1 1/2 years ago......the cheap inside room. Sailed in January on Magic.....cheap inside room(cat. 11). On SOTS, small room! Just two couches (we actually bumped knees when sitting across from each other) with bunks above. Needless to say, we slept apart. Disney......lots of room and we got to sleep together in the big bed. Plenty of room to walk around. Felt more like a fairly nice hotel than sleeping in a closet (like SOTS)
