Question Re: Points Transfer

We need to rent points for a November stay at OKW. My wife's aunt is DVC member with OKW being her home resort. I would like to have the points transferred to her account and have her make our reservation. Would I be able to rent points for November now from someone whose home resort is other than OKW. (In other words, bypass the 4-months difference in reservation time)

why would you want to rent points from someone that owns at a different home resort other then okw? if your staying at okw

if you want to stay at okw and you want to make ressies now, you would need to find someone with okw points for the 11 month ressies, otherwise if you rent points from someone that owns at the other resorts, you would have to wait for the 7 month to make ressies and with that said, dont forget it has to be 7 months out from checking out date.

as far as your dw aunt receiving the points to make the ressies for you, yes.

you can do all the leg work finding the points to rent and let the person know that the points will be transferred into the dw aunts account, you will then have to provide the owner with your aunts membership # and name when you send the owner the money.

just make sure that the points can be transferred and the points will be go for your entire stay.

The answer to your question is a definitive "maybe".

Transferred points are supposed to maintain their original home resort and UY. However, their is apparently a glitch in the computer system, and the only way for this to happen is if a supervisor at MS overrides the system. I've never tried this myself - just recounting what I've read on this board. Since it's a glitch in the system, and is directly opposite what the POS says, there is every chance that this glitch could be fixed before you can take advantage of it...

I don't think the OP is necessarily looking to rent from someone who owns at a resort other than OKW. I think they are simply inquiring as to whether there would still be a way to use their OKW priority if they get a deal on points transferred from another resort.

i had rented points from another owner, matter of fact 3 owners, this past jan., owning all at wlv and i owning at bcv. i wanted to make ressies at the 11 months out for the wlv, using only wlv points.

you are right there is a glitch with the computers, when the points were deposited into my account they became bcv points and i had to have a supervisor make the ressies manually, to switch the points back to its original home wlv.
the supervisor also told be that ms is working on the switch over now so that the points will keep their original home resort.

that is why one of the reasons that i didnt go into detail and post wrong info about points changing to the owners home resort. i was just going by the dvc rule on transferred points and what the supervisor had told me.

that would be great to get a deal on renting points, i know we would all like that, but to take the chance of the points not remaining its own home resort and knowing the po wants to stay at okw, i would stick with the renting okw points, and taking the advantage of the 11 months to make ressies especially nov. is a popular month.

Ummm... I didn't think that I posted wrong information... I posted precisely what you state happened to you, and the fact that it is contrary to what is written in the POS. I even stated that there is every chance that the glitch will be fixed.

Where does that constitute posting wrong information

Hookdon, you are on the money. That is exactly what I was looking for and I thank you both for clearing this up. I do understand what you were referring to with the glitch in the system and how it would be risky. I will look to rent from an OKW member just to be sure of the 11 month window.
