No kidding, LFC Nut. I've become a channel zapper during the past week.

DH is going nuts. He's a c-130/c-17 pilot and wants so bad to be in the thick of things. I'm rather glad that he's flying a desk at the moment.

btw I think the British generals are much better at briefing. They're not so full of PC gobbly gook. I like the way they tell it like is. The US generals are really good at CYOA.

Covering one's behind is an art at the highest levels on the military. I'm afraid the finger pointing has already begun around here. They're all blaming Sec Def (Rumsfeld). Rumor has it, he's the one that wanted to go the "lean mean" route. Now they're sending over 100,000 more troops.

Speaking personally, I'd be happy for Rumsfeld to take a bit of pressure from the American media and the American people. Leave the politics to the politicians, and the war planning to the armed forces. Neither side is good at the other's job. Did you read Bob Woodward's book about the post-9/11 Whitehouse? Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz were pushing the Joint Chiefs of Staff for alternative plans (because they thought the original plans 'unimaginative') from the outset. I guess the same has been happening for Iraq war planning. William Wallace's comments looked like a shot across Rumsfeld's bow to me. Not a good situation to be in when you have the senior command having a partially disguised public row. Let's all hope that the collapse in Iraqi resistance (forecast by Rumsfeld) happens soon.
