Question Re: Bathroom for little ones

I can see it now... we are in line..almost there... gonna be on the ride...and "someone" has to go potty.
Our 5 yr old grandson, that is! Tell me- has anyone run into this? Will the CM let one of you leave the line to bring the child to a restroom and get back in line or are we doomed to telling them to "hold it"

Just wondering- havent seen the subject come up before. I like to be prepared!

There aren't really any CMs throughout the lines to let you back in, so you would have to walk back past all the other people in line (and many will probably think you are trying to cut )

We only had to get out of line once (and that was for my 9 year old, not the 4 year old!), but fortunately we were only waiting about 5-10minutes. This is why I made them use the bathroom every time we stopped. They always say that they "don't have to go", but if they sit down and "try" they usually do. Just take lots of potty breaks and I'm sure you will be fine.

I think it's a lot smarter to just plan potty breaks before you get in line.

I saw this happen to a family about to get on Soarin. The Grandmother got out of line and the rest of the family had to stand aside until they came back.

A few years ago, when my oldest son was about 6, we were close to the font of the line for Test Track, when he decided that he had to go to the bathroom and absolutely could not hold it. A CM told my father and I go ahead and ride (b/c DS wanted DH to take him), and let them (DH & DS) come back in through the exit and hop right on.

So, it is possible, but I don't know how things would work if you were further back in the line, not close to a CM.

One trip, we were actually in pre-show room on Test Track when ds3.5 said he had to go. The CM led us out a back door and gave us a fast-pass so we wouldn't have to wait in line when we got back. But ds got cold feet and we never went back.

After that, we stopped at every restroom we went past - did this last time with dd who was almost 3. Worked very well although I felt we were spending a lot of time in the facilities, but we never had to leave out of another ride or show.

Our rule is, if one person needs to "rest" (hee, hee, you know go into the "restroom" ) EVERYONE "rests." That way we get lots of potty breaks. Oh, yes, my son has peed himself TWICE in MK because he was having so much fun he never told anyone he needed to "rest."

Take a change of clothes.

for a 5yo, I wouldn't even ask "do you have to go?" - I'd just make the potty stop every XXX of time (whatever is usual for that child).* My kids are 7and 8 and I still say "we're all going potty before this ride (...before we sit in the restaurant; before we leave the park, etc).* They're so excited, they ignore the feeling of having to go (or just don't want to take the time to go).* And when one says "but I don't have any pee" I tell them to push out whatever they have in there - everyone always has a drop - and sure enough, they always have more than a drop.* Or you can tell him it's the disney rule - everyone potties before a long line, etc.* have fun!

I agree - with young children DO take a change of clothes! In a gallon ziploc bag. You never know when they spill badly or get dirty.

Make potty breaks mandatory.

When my DD was 2 and a half, she was potty trained. Her first trip to WDW - so I was a bad mommy and had her wear pull-ups that week. She didn't want to, but I explained that we could be in a long line and she may need it. Then she was okay with it. We got home, and I never used them again for her, and she was fine with that as well. We just took regular breaks with DS (then 4) and they always came into the stall with me, or DS went in with daddy. I am picky about restrooms - they have to be with us. When DD would try to do everything herself, she would take about 20 minutes! I got sick of waiting for her!

We were waiting in line with Fast Passes for Peter Pan when DS had to go to the bathroom. A CM had to let us out and she said to just come back at the exit and she told us to hang on to our fast passes. We actually didn't ride because it was the end of the day and for some reason DS had a meltdown. So, I let him pick a family in line to give our fast passes to.

I think either the scheduled potty breaks or set up the rule when one goes everyone goes. That's what we're planning . . . hopefully they'll be no problems with this! Good luck!

My DD is 2 1/2. I had planned to not potty trained till after we returned from Disney. Guess who trained this week? Yep! She is doing great but we are doing pull ups and planning lots of potty stops for our Disney trip. I have visions of us drowning Dumbo if we didn't have the pull ups on.
