So this is my 10th trip to WDW but sometimes I include the trip insurance and sometimes I don't. We are going again on the free dining package during hurricane season so we included it in our package. I wasn't told how much the insurance was though and wanted some info on if the trip insurance is needed or how much it is? We love the free dining package!!! The best thing we did was receive the email about it and it is great!!!
Thanks,
Heather

When I booked with Disney I asked them who supplied the insurance and they gave me the number to call. Each insurance is different... This one only covered in a hurricaine if you were "forced to evacuate"... Also, with DIsney you can make changes & cancel up to 45 days before travel. If you cancel between 45 days-7days its a $100 fee in total, within 6 days is $200 penalty.. That is the total price, not per person. So it was going to cost us $120 for insurance, when worst case scenerio we would be out $200... I'll take the gamble.

If you are unsure you have 14 days to add the insurance to your trip. You may want to call them directly if you have any concerns. ;)

Just subscribing as I'd like to know this, too! We're about to book the Free Dining package.....Gotta love it!

Ok my question is this...my sister has a package that includes the airfare...I don't cause I am driving down...anyhow...she has the insurance on her package...will this cover her if the airline shuts down because of the possible strike? How will Disney handle the flight part of the packages if there is a strike or shutdown of the airline?? :confused3

Again, I would call DIsney directly and ask for the phone number for insurance supplier. They are more than happy to give it out.

I would call the travel insurance Company! I believe with or without insurance if your flight needs to be changed the airline will give you a voucher in the amount of the airfare amount paid for the ticket and you have 1yr to use it. If the airfare is more money for your new trip than the last you have to pay the difference.

There was ALOT of things this insurance did not cover, so I didn't think it was worth it. Worst case without the insurance is $200 penalty per booking. Alot of people think they lose everything.

Not sure what happens in the case of an airline strike. I think they said that if your flight is delayed/ connection missed/ or due to weather or issues other than mechanical it is not covered.

I have a problem paying $120 and not knowing EXACTLY what I am getting. What good is a travel insurance policy if someone is buying for the hurricaine portion only to find out that you cannot cancel because of an "impending" hurricaine, or you only get refunded if you have to be evacuated? From other reports I have read that alot of the State of Florida evacuate to Orlando!

Please know what you are buying! :Pinkbounc

Thanks so much to all who had info. I will be calling and cancelling our insurance if it isn't what we think it is.

I agree with justplaingoofy. I did the same math and came up with the same conclusion. This will be our 3rd trip in Sept. (over the last 3 years) and so far we've been lucky. No hurricane problems. 2004 we cut it close though, we arrived 2 days after Frances and left the day Ivan hit the Pan Handle.

I guess we're risk takers!

Here is a link to the WDW travel insurance pamphlet. I only had to pay $60, since I was the only adult and it did seem to cover the things I was worried about(getting sick or hurt)

Thank you for the link. I'm sure alot of people will find that helpful. One of the questions I had asked the travel insurance company when I called was "I am traveling with my mom who is a primary caregiver to my dad who had MS and is in a wheel chair,he will be staying at home with other family coming to help. (she needs this vacation, badly) Should he become sick before we leave, does that fall under the sick category and will we be reimbursed?".... She said "well it is a pre existing cause"..

Gotta love the pre exisiting clause!...

justlpaingoofy, I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I am an only child with a mom who lives by herself with end stage kidney failure. Most of the time DH and I just buy the insurance without really knowing what it includes. This time we really are not sure what to do :confused3 . i also called WDW and asked what happens if we are in WDW and get an emergency and need to go home. They told me it really is up to the resort and Disney at the time of the problem. They said if I might have to supply doctors notes to explain the problem. So I think this time we might just not get the insurance. Disney also stated I have up till 45 days before the trip to add on the insurance.

I almost forgot 2 years ago 9/04 the airports closed down on the day we were supposed to arrive in WDW :sad2: . We called Disney and they let us re-book as long as we booked within 3 weeks. Two weeks later more bad weather :sad2: , we called WDW and explained the situation and they just cancelled everything. We were fully refunded and never bought the trip insurance :woohoo: . So it really does depend on the situation. Hope I did not confuse anyone. For the most part we probably will not buy the insurance and just hope for the best, lets all just keep our fingers crossed and think good thoughts :rolleyes1 and hope for lots of pixy dust. pixiedust: pixiedust:

We were supposed to arrive 1 day after one of the hurricanes. Disney and the airline allowed us to move our trip by a couple of days with no extra charges. It seems usually hotels will not charge you if you rebook and NOT just cancel. Re: air, we found they will usually give you a credit for the amount of your ticket to be used within a year.

Good luck, and hope everything works out okay... Its important for the care- takers or someone that is ill to get away and have something to look forward to... :cheer2:

I'm sprinkling pixie dust on you!!

Try insuremytrip.com. I was able to get great coverage and it only cost me $45. I chose TravelGuard issued by AIG. I hghly recommend this website.
