Lets say I make a reservation for my home resort at the 11 month window for 7 nights Sunday through Saturday to make sure I get the reservation. In an effort to save points, could I at the time when cash ressies are accepted, try and make those last two weekend days cash days instead of point days. If this is possible, would I be able to then bank those points saved for next year?

Also, when are cash ressies accepted?

As long as you change them to cash 31 days or more, you will avoid the holding account. You also have to watch to banking deadlines to be sure you have enough time to bank. They also have to be current year points to bank. Cash ressies can be available at anytime, but more likely in the last 60 days when unreserved points rooms are turned over to CRO for breakage income. Also watch for AP or special rates through CRO, those can be more than the 25% member discount. Travelocity is offering a studio or 1 bedroom at BWV for the first week of December at about 40% off.

The rooms would need to be available for cash at the time you change over, you can't just change the payment designation on the room you already have. That means if the resorts is booked up for cash reservations, you will not have the option you seek but will still have a room. You might have to change rooms though it's unlikely. You might consider trying another resort for those 2 days.
