Question on the deluxe dining plan...think I'm doing this wrong

We will be staying for nine nights with two adults and three children over the age of 9 in the room. With the deluxe dining, you get 3 meals per day, correct?

Five people x 3 points per night x 9 nights = 135 dining points. Is that right? It can't be that much.

Factoring that signature restaurants and in-room dining are 2 points each per person, how on earth can you use up all of those points?

Luau - 5 ppl * 2 points is only 10 points, room Service dinner - 5 ppl * 2 points is 10 points, Cinderella's Castle dinner is 10 points..... What am I doing wrong to get so many points.

You're not doing anything wrong. It is 135 credits. It is designed to give 3 meals/night of your stay. So 27 per person. Maybe it won't seem so mind boggling if you think of it that way.

And as you're already planning, using some credits for room service, dinner shows or signature restaurants can reduce it to two meals/night/person.

So I think it can be done, but as many have stated the 2TS restaurants take at least 2 hours - so you'd spend your days in restaurants instead of touring!!

Now, as to how full you'll be... or you'll be using those credits in the food court and counter service places...

Dont forget to subtract the cost of the refillable mugs - $11.99 per person, once/one purchase...

You have too much money. Just kidding, just kidding! You're math is correct--it's just hard to comprehend that much food is included. If all 5 of you did a 2 credit dinner (signature dining, HDDR/Luau, room service) every single night of your 9 night trip, it would use up 90 of your credits. That would leave you with 45, divided by the 5 of you leaves one more meal for each of the 9 nights.

Or, if you wanted 3 (1 credit) TS meals a day for all 5 of you, it would take 15 credits per day to feed your family. 15 times 9 nights is 135 credits.

And don't forget the 90 snack credits!

If it still seems like too much, just let me know the dates you'll be there and I'll be happy to take one of your room keys and use up some of the extras for you. Have fun--it sounds like a great trip!

Thanks for the quick responses. Looking at room service dinner for five people, the bill w/automatic gratuity, service fees, etc. would be $350 but it would only be 10 points. That's amazing.

I'm thinking Yacht Club Galley or Cape May for breakfast every day and then California Grill, Cinderella's Castle, Brown Derby or room service for dinner every night.

Good point! Even though the 2008 DDP isn't as good a deal as the 2007 DDP, the addition of the deluxe DDP will make the lines for the attractions shorter, since everyone will be busy eating!

You do not use credits for the mugs--the mugs will be a separate thing that you are entitled to in additon to your credits. So you still have those five credits to work with.

Now, this assumes your In-room dining figures include the gratuity/tip/service charge (because the check will; you'll have to pay it yourself, but 18% will be indicated on your check)
If not, 18% of the meals that don't include the tip (Hoop De Doo and the Luau DO, at least on the DDDP), is $523.68.
Then your total approximate price is $3,673.23, for an ultimate savings of 'only' $1,423.67!

The price for the the luau and Hoop dee doo include gratuity so I don't see how they could break that portion out of the price.

If I book during the bounceback promotion in two weeks, the reported 'cost' of the deluxe dining is only $1,485 (or $33 per person).

$5,096 less the price of the plan of $1,485 equals a savings of $3,611 (minus gratuities of about $400). That's insane but who am I to argue.

I'm speechless. Those numbers are amazing. I had no idea the DXDDP could amount to that big a savings. You have to do a dining report when you get back so I can live vicariously through you.
