My wife and I just recently learned about DVC in our last trip just after christmas. Currently we can not afford a 160 BLT on one income, she is staying home with our 21 month old daughter who has already been to WDW twice xmas 2007 and 2008. What would be the pro's and con's for buying a 50pt BLT add on from someone who is reselling if/when they become available in a few months?

The way I see it:

I would be a full member
Low start up cost
Maint Fee low
I could rent or add pts whenever

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I would recommend as I always do, take your time to learn all that you can about the DVC and rent where you think you want to buy.

Spending your money for a resort that you may not love doesn't make sense.

i have a small contract at OKW and all of this is true. (OTOH, OKW has studios that start at 8 pts per night). i definitely encourage you to hang around the DVC boards and learn to use the search function to take some time to figure out if DVC is worth getting into for your family. it can be a very good value for staying onsite but make sure you understand the pros and cons.

ummm...not exactly. you can still rent pts but only on the same terms you currently get (i.e. you have no control over the reservation and you can't call MS to verify anything about it.)

also, you are limited to one point transfer (in or out) per year - the transferred pts would need to be from BLT to book there at 11 months but they would give you control over the reservation. given the one transfer only restriction, finding a transfer is not a sure thing.

you can add-on later at BLT, but may be restricted to add-ons of 100 pts or more.

I'm basing my response on my assumption that you're not currently a DVC member. Add-ons are just that, adding on to a current contract. I doubt BLT will be on the resale market anytime soon.

We bought a resale contract of 100 pts at OKW and love it. There are many good resellers out there and many many contracts. Buy where you love to stay for sure, for the booking advantage. Feel free to post more questions if you have them! We decided with little ones, it's far better to have our lodging taken care of all the way up till we have grandkids than paying rack rate for every trip. Good luck!

I am currently not a member and all of this is very good information.

I did not know you were only allowed one transfer per year. That will definitely factor in my decision.

I am an engineer so I will be doing a lot of research and asking questions over the next year or so while saving for this, thank you all for your service.

hard to say. i bet BLT resales will be on the market in a few months. but since DVC is planning to cut off the supply of 50 pt contracts, they should command a huge premium.

I would like to bet that Disney implements ROFR on any BLT resale less than 100 points.

Other costs you need to be aware of - annual member fees based on the resort - and they do go up annually. Tickets. Food. Transportation to FL.
