OK.. So my mother is getting a bit older, has had some health issues in the last few months and just isnt able to walk the distances she was able to just a year or so ago. At first she wasnt even going to go, but she's feeling better, but still too weak to walk that far.

So backstory done :)

If we get a foldable WC, should we fold it and hold it, we have 3 of us that are very cabable of holding it, and not taking away from the others that need to look out for kids and stuff. Or would you suggest having it attached and mom just sitting in it. Are the foldable ones able to be tied down if that's what folks suggest? We have thought about just renting WC at the parks, but we are a) afraid perhaps they would be out b) worried that she would get tired / have issues from bus to park gate / bus to resort room. We arent expecting that, but would be un-fun if we guessed wrong.

Thanks for the input. :thumbsup2

If your mom can walk up bus stairs (or even a ramp), then you can certainly just hold the wheelchair and have her sit in a regular seat. I am not sure if a "companion chair" with the small wheels can be tied down (I am not sure the frame is strong enough for that - I am sure someone else here knows)

I DEFINITELY suggest bringing your own wheelchair - the parks don't usually run out, but they come in a variety of sizes and sometimes they are not very comfortable - I have been in one too small for me (I am 5'1" and 115 lbs!) and one that was 2 feet wide, and so harder to maneuver. So definitely bring the one from home! Your airline will let you take it to the gate and check it for free.

If you bring a w/c your mother will know if she needs extra support. It can be very tiring sitting in the folding seat as it has little support. A firm pillow is good as a seat. If your mother can manage to walk on to the bus then I would treat the w/c like stroller and fold it up for transport and carry it on.

Great, yes, she can make it up the stairs no problems at all. We are going to rent one down there and have it delivered to the resort. At the airport here in columbus it's not that bad of a walk since we'll be taking breaks to check luggage, security, potty breaks for the kids etc. At MCO may see if they can wheel her around, but even there she can make that we'll just go slow. But heat and walking etc for a week just wouldnt work. It's a case where we almost dont need one for her, but to make it comfortable and to ease everyones mind, just do it :)
