Hello

I have a December Use Year.
I'm trying to understand transfers. Would it be possible to receive a transfer this month of November, and then still be able to receive 1 transfer from December 08 through Nov. of next year?
I understand that we can transfer once per year, but not sure if it's once per use year, or per 1 literal year.
Thanks in advance for your help with this.

One transfer per UY, in or out.

This doesn't apply for transfers between different contracts that you own.

Does the UY follow the transferred points? In other words, would I be permitted to execute all three of the transactions described below?

Example 1:
It is September 2008. I have an Aug UY. I want to receive a transfer of 150 points from a member with an Dec UY (obviously, these would be '07 points for that member, but I am in my '08 UY). Would this transfer count as an '07 UY transfer?

Example 2:
It is September 2008. I have an Aug UY. I want to receive a transfer of 200 points from a member with a April UY (obviously these would be '08 points for that member, and I am in my '08 UY). Would this transfer count as an '08 UY?

Example 3:
It is February 2009. I have an Aug UY. I want to receive a transfer of 250 points from a member with a Jan UY (obviously, these would be '09 points for that member, and I am still in my '08 UY). Would this transfer count as an '09 UY?

If all three of these scenarios would be permitted, I could theoretically make 3 transfers within 6 months, correct?

Thanks in advance for your help (hope I didn't make anyone's head spin!)

1. Transfers are supposed to be made to/from the same Use Year. MS has apparently allowed dissimilar transfers at times. In example 1, you might not be alowed to accept a transfer of 07 points into your 08 Use Year.

2. Yes, you would be accepting a transfer of 2008 points into your 2008 Use Year ... UNLESS MS had already allowed the transfer in example 1 above - in that case you would have already had your one transfer for 2008.

3. Yes, you can accept a transfer of 2009 points into your 2009 Use Year ... but there is no January Use Year (or May, July or November).

If you own multiple contracts, making a transfer from one to another would use your "One per use Year" limit for both accounts for that Use Year. If your multiple contracts are all under the same membership (as add-ons to the master contract), there would be no need to transfer points since they can all be used from within the contract as is.

To the OP: My understanding is that the one thing you cannot do is receive a transfer into a UY that has already expired. That means, since you are in your 08 UY, you cannot receive a transfer that is credited to your 07 UY. For this reason, I think MS WILL allow you to treat a transfer of 07 points as your one and only 08 transfer.

Be careful when you are making multiple UY transfers as transferred points cannot be borrowed. So if you receive a transfer of Dec 09 UY points, they cannot be used for any reservation prior to Dec 09.

Transferred points can be banked, however, and MS has ignored the banking deadline in the past, but there is no guarantee that will always be allowed. If you receive Dec 07 points, they might have to be used by Nov 08.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
