Question on packages and discounts

I was talking to my neighbors last night, and they are thinking of going to WDW to combine with a business trip she is taking to Ft. Lauderdale. They love to eat, so we were looking at the MYM package with the dining option. I did not see any room only discounts for the general public, except AP's which would not work for them. Since I am DVC and always have an AP, I've never looked at the packages before. So, I'm wondering are the rates for the package pretty much solid? Are there any AAA discounts on the whole package, or any discounts from somewhere else? Or is it the rate from the Disney Website no matter what? Are there any advantages to booking it through DU?

They had no problems with the prices, just wanted to make sure I have all the info for them. They cannot go from late Aug to early Oct so they can't do the free dining option, unfortunately.

My understanding is that discounts do not apply to packages. It's one or the other. They need to do the math to see if an AAA discount makes more sense than the dining package (if it's the free dining package for two people, it can be a very good value). Time to crunch numbers!
