Question on opening day pricing

I was just looking at the 2013 pricing for comparison as I am still undecided between a 4 night on the Dream or a 7 night on the Fantasy. On the 2013 Fantasy pricing thread For March 24, 2013 I see this:
4C 2A2K [12, 14] 3453.38 no ins/trns (at 8:10 am)
4C 2A2K [12, 14] 6745.20 no ins/trns (at 11:00 am)

And
5C 2A2K [12, 14] 3201.38 no ins/trns [896, 896, 555.80, 511.70] (at 8:10 am)
5C 2A2K [12, 14] 6367.20 [1834/1834/1008/903] no ins/trns (at 11:00 am)

Can that be right? I knew prices climbed but that just seems insane! That is the week before Easter in 2013 – maybe that made it more in demand than usual? Still – almost double in 3 hours seems insane. I was expecting it to be between $5K-$6K, but just confused by the big jump. Any thoughts? This has me more convinced than ever I need to be ready to go. Yup – I’m freaking out…

When i was pricing trips mine jumped by 800.00 then my dh told me too look using private browsing (firefox) and there was no change at all!

Yes, prices can jump that quickly. Especially on holiday/school break times.

Our WBPC cruise sold out in 2 days.

Some cruises, the prices may not move for several months until it gets closer to the cruise. Some, the prices can change hourly.

:cutie:

I think I remember people saying that it was likely a price glitch. I don't think it's common for prices to jump that much although they do go up. I'm looking at spring break 2014 and am very nervous. Do they give any advanced notice (ie will I know ahead of time to get up early to book)?

I had one "prime time" cruise go up by $800 between the time I saw it on line and the time I got a DCL CM on the phone. OK, so I was on hold for a while (another reason I use a TA now!) The CM said that they had been increasing between one phone call and the next, and that when he had me on his computer screen, I had that price locked until he hung up.

So yes, for prime weeks it can happen. Other cruises may not move at all from opening day until the ship sails.

It is actually for the 3/23/13 cruise, and yes, it is accurate. The cruise came very close to selling out early on, as well. That happens with holiday cruises and use to happen for the special repos as well. The price for the 2008 PC repos kept rising every few minutes it seemed as I was on hold with DCL. The EB repo sold out by noon.
