Question on multiple property ownership

Let's assume I purchase 50 points at Boardwalk and 50 points at Old Key West, so that I have a total of 100 points per year. Let's further assume I'm planning a trip and the resort point cost is, 11 points for Sunday through Thursday, and 22 for Friday and Saturday.

When I go to book a trip, are they going to look at my 100 total points, or will they look at them separately.

If combined, my above trip is 99 points for the week. However, if the 2 50-point DVCs are separate, I don't think there's a combination for my example that you could make it still work.

Follow-up if they are treated separately. Would owning 2 50-point DVCs at the same property change this? Would they need the same "use year"?

TIA

If booking between 11 months and 7 months from check out, you can only use your OKW points to book OKW and BWV points to book BWV. At 7 months, you can use points from both contracts to book any resort. The method for combining the points depends on how the contracts relate to one another.

1. The contracts are "related": one is a master, the other is an add-on to that master (or they are both add-ons to the same master). A master and an add-on have the same base contract number with a ".0" extension on the master and a ".1" extension on the first add-on and they have the same Use Year. In this case you can combine the points from the two contracts at 7 months out to book your trip, or to extend a reservation that you started at 11 months out at OKW or BWV with the points you owned at that resort.

2. The contracts are completely separate: they have completely different contract numbers and you have a unique DVC membership number for each contract. In this case, you cannot combine the points. You could make a reservation for part of the trip with one contract and a separate reservation for the rest of the trip with points from the other contract and have MS link the two reservations. Alternatively, you could use your one transfer per Use Year for both contracts to transfer points from one contract to the other and make the reservation from the receiving contract.

Follow-up if they are treated separately. Would owning 2 50-point DVCs at the same property change this? Would they need the same "use year"?
If they are totally separate contracts, it doesn't matter if they are for the same resort, you would still have to book the trip as two reservations, one per contract, or transfer points from one contract to the other. What would change is the time frame: if both contracts are for the same resort, you can book the entire reservation(s) 11 months from check out.

Similarly, if the contracts are related (master and add-on, or two add-ons to the same master) but are for the same resort, then you can combine the points 11 months from check out to make the reservation.

You have several options. You can't book the entire trip 11 months out but you could book 5 or 6 of the 7 nights depending on your resort choices and then do the last night or two at 7 months out combining points. Or you could arrange to bank or borrow points to finish out that last night. Remember weekend nights are much easier to reserve anyway. Even if you want all nights at one resort, reserve at much as possible at 11 months out so you have a place to stay.

If you transferred the points from Resort A contract to Resort B contract, can you then use all the points (including those transferred) to book Resort B at 11 months out?

Transferred points are supposed to retain their home resort and UY. So according to the rules, no, you would not (and should not) be able to do what you're asking. The Resort A points would stay Resort A points even if they are transferred into a Resort B contract.

MS has to track transferred points manually and in the past points have "morphed" from one resort to another after a transfer. Some people took advantage of this shortcoming in MS' computer system by buying one small BCV contract and transferring in hundreds of points from other resorts, creating hundreds of bogus BCV points. Many of us believe this is what led MS to restrict all members to one transfer per UY. It's easier for MS to keep track of transferred points when there are fewer of them floating around. Of course it would be even easier for MS if they would just fix this properly in the system!

OT (sorry): jberry5, I love your Reds bobble head avatar! Is that from your own collection? I have a small collection of classics from the '60s, but they have become so expensive that I stopped buying a few years ago.

I found the picture online, but do have it. I think the only vintage one I'm missing is one of the two black boy versions. I'll have to take a picture of my collection at some point to share. Right now we're trying to catalog the collection, but it's taking some time, DW says I have a bit of an addiction.

Here are two pictures from my collection.

I am in AWE! Look at that baseball display! DW is going to hear about this -- she is the real reason that I stopped collecting. And now I have proof that there are sensible people out there who have more nodders than I do.

Okay, last pictures for now. And if you asked my DW, she would disagree with the "sensible" part of that statement.

I have over 1,000 of these right now, and am trying to catalog them to figure out what to keep and what to sell. And I'm thinking it might be those sales that help us towards purchasing DVC.

Also, in that picture above of the college mascots, the Oregon Duck's likeness is that of Donald Duck, and actually has a Disney trademark sticker on the bottom of it.

I'm still re-arranging these as I have added a few since that baseball picture above was taken.

Thanks for posting more great pictures. I have a better idea for buying DVC -- open your house as a museum. Let me know when you have the grand opening and I will make the pilgrimage!

Dh and I are talking about this. So I'm gathering even if we add on the minimum at GC, we will only be able to use those points at that resort, correct? We have 240 at SSR and I was hoping we could add on like 50 to GC. Dh said the minimum was 160, but isn't that just for first time members? The more I think about it all, the less it's making sense to me.

The minimum add-on has been 25 if paying cash, and 50 for financing. You can only use home resort points to book at the 11 - 8 month mark. Once we hit 7 months, all the points can be combined for a reservation. We've added on to AKV and BCV each with 100 points, and I fully intend to use banking and borrowing to make some 200-250 point range ressies at 11 months out at each of those resorts.

The minimun add-on is 25 points if you pay cash and 50 points if you finance.

If you have more than one home resort, all vacation points being used to make a reservation during the Home Resort Priority Period must be associated with that home resort. That is, you cannot combine points from multiple resorts to book one resort during the Home Resort Priority Period

You may combine all the points you have at all your home resorts and book any DVC resort at the 7-month window.

Aha- makes sense now. Thx. I do want to go with getting some at GCV too, just at least two nights worth, so around 50-ish. We use the hotel monthly, I'd like to have the opportunity to use the villas too.
