My family and I are going to be arriving at the airport really late at night around 11pm or later and I was thinking of staying that night at a really inexpensive hotel for few hours then coming back to the airport to take the ME to a Disney resort, has anyone done this? do you think this can be done? If you did do this how did you?

Thanks

Forgive me, I know I'm answering questions you didn't ask, but I just can't help myself .... ;)

Your "really inexpensive hotel" is going to get more expensive when you factor in the cost of taxi rides to and from the airport.

If you are planning on going to a park on your first full day, you're going to slow yourself down by getting from hotel to airport to WDW resort, then possibly being too early to check-in, etc.

We arrived around 10 p.m. a few weeks ago. Yeh, it didn't feel great to spend so much for a day/night that we barely used, but the payoff for us was WAKING UP IN DISNEY WORLD. We got a fresh start on the magic -- no muss, no fuss.

Now, to your question ....

Even if you flew in the night before, you still are entitled to DME transportation that next morning. I think the easiest way to do it, though, is when you make your reservation tell them you are flying in that morning and supply them with a flight number and time that approximates when you expect to be back at the airport that morning. You'll have to bring your own luggage to the DME bus -- it won't be able to be automatically delivered to your room because it won't be "behind the scenes" for employees to pull.

DON'T USE THE DME LUGGAGE TAGS. If you do, your bags will be pulled "behind the scenes" and they won't appear at the baggage claim carousel the night you arrive.

So you are going to pay $70.00 to get a free ride on a bus the next day. Or is it that you don't check into the hotel until the next day and flying the day before. The busses are there all the time. Go straight to your hotel and bed down until the next day.

I'll chime in also.....get off the plane, head to DME checkin desk, hop on the bus and go to your WDW resort. Get a good nights sleep.
Yes, you could head to a cheapo resort for the arrival night, but to what purpose? You will need to spend money to get a cab there and then back to the airport, plus the cost of the hotel itself. I would just put those yellow tags on my bags, pack a carryon bag with oversized tee-shirts, toothbrushes/paste, deoderant, brush, clean undies and head for WDW!!! Your bags will be there when you wake up in the morning. You wake up in WDW, rather than off-site. Eat breakfast, and head to a park.

People can generally get a 3* hotel in the MCO zone, through Priceline, for around $50. AFAIK all the 3* hotels in the MCO zone offer complimentary shuttle bus service 24/7. Tip a couple dollars when the driver helps you with your luggage. I'm not sure why the previous posters think guests have to pay for a taxi.

I can understand some guests not wanting to spend $300-$400 for a deluxe hotel if they're checking in very late and only want a place to sleep. I'd spend the extra few dollars if I was staying in a value or even a moderate resort but I might consider staying at an airport hotel if my savings was hundreds of dollars.

We had an 11:30 pm arrival and stayed at the Hyatt right in the airport. Grabbed our bags went upstairs and right into our room. They had a "free" breakfast for our room. So we had breakfast, checked out and went down to DME and got right on the bus. Very quick and easy. We were in our bed that night I think by midnight or shortly thereafter. So yes, what you propose can be done.

THis would be the way I would do it if I felt that I would be paying too much for that night on-site.
