Question on library pockets

I am signed up to make library pockets for the character swap. I have never made one before, so I went online and found instructions for one made with two pieces of paper and one with a template. I also found many pictures of finished product. So, I am not worried about making it--I think it will be fun.

My question is how big is the library pocket when it is done? Is it the size of a library pocket that you would find in a library book? Or is it smaller? Or is that up to the person who is creating it? It was hard to tell from the pictures. The one made from two pieces of paper is about 4"w by 5"tall and the template is about 3"w by 4"tall. Does this sound about right? Or should I make them smaller?

It had good directions and a link for one library pocket template that you can make any size and then another link to several different templates that print out the "correct size".

I can't find the other link. It had a photo step by step, but here are directions from my notes that I scribbled down. I hope they make sense. If you take a piece of printer paper and do each step, that should help (especially if you are a visual person):
1. Take an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and lay it in the portrait position.
2. Divide the paper into two columns of 4 1/2 and 4 inches. Cut.
3. Then cut each column in half so you now have two pieces that are 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 and two that are 4 x 5 1/2.
4. Place the 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 so that it is vertical, being 5 1/2 inches tall.
5. Rotate the 4 x 5 1/2 to horizontal position, so it is 4 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide. Place it on top of vertical piece.
6. Overlap on sides and bottom 1/2 inch each.
7. Turn over and trace outline of tall piece on wide piece.**
8. Cut up to bottom corners at an angle.
9. Fold over sides and glue on back of two sides and bottom.
10. You should now have a library pocket.
**If you want you can use an oval frame as a pattern and cut a curved shape in the top of the "pocket part" . You would mark this on the back--after you do the tracing so that you know where to stop and start.

I will have to look at Michaels this week for the coluzzle template. Does sizzix also have a template? Though it would be smaller, I'm sure. Was there a Michael's coupon this week?

A new library pocket template? And it's been spotted at Michaels? I think I need one, lol.

I did find the Coluzzle file folder template at Roberts in Provo (with a 40% off coupon, to boot).

I didn't find a Michaels ad in my paper on Sunday, but dh got to the paper first. I think he is hiding my Michaels' coupons.

If you don't want to make them you can go to a teachers store and get really cute colored ones and then decorate them. I just brought a multi colored pack and they had really cute checker board ones.

Are these made from acid free paper?
