I already had an iTunes account for my own ipods, DD9 and DD7 both received ipod Touches for Christmas, I set them up for use prior to opening under my own iTunes account that Ive had for a few years so they could access all of my apps most bought for them to play on my older iPod Touch and movies ect. Well FaceTime was a huge plus for me so they could call Grandma, Aunts, Uncles and cousins who all have iPhones or iPads, however the set up is requiring me to put it my iTunes info which I did and tried using it yesterday to call Grandma but both of them could not use FaceTIme at the same time or to just for fun call each other. Do I need to set up their own iTunes accounts? I added their iTunes cards under my account prior to knowing this so they could download. I cant find the answer on iTunes site. THank you

Both my boys got new ipods for Christmas too. When you set up the face time, you have to click on create a new account. Then you will have to have a different email address in for each of them. This will just be for face time and they can still share all the other apps on the itunes account. This is what worked for us, and the boys are able to face time with each other.

You're in good company as I am doing this today too. (dds age 7, 9)

I made my kids their own apple ID. First I created a free hotmail account for each of them, and then used that to create their apple ID and apple password.

Now they can face-time and message each other just fine. First round they had to type in the sister's email address, and then we created a contact, so all they have to do is look up the first name.

When creating their apple id, I was honest about their birthdate, which means they are not old enough to download from iTunes. I'm fine with that. Either I gift them a song/app or they can just pay me a dollar, do a chore, etc...

Our iTunes on the computer holds everything the family has downloaded... songs, apps, etc... When setting up the first iPod, it auto-synced EVERYTHING in my iTunes account to my dd's iPod. Not a good idea! (Banking apps, etc.)

I restored it back to factory settings and then clicked the options to MANUALLY add songs, apps, etc. The girls sat with me and picked and chose what apps and songs they wanted.

If they want a new app/song I download it from my itunes account and then from the computer they can add it.

I havent tinkered with iCloud, but I do use the computer iTunes account like an iCloud. It has EVERYTHING we own (downloaded by my apple ID) and then everyone picks and chooses what thy want to put of their iPod. So no "Bacon Farts" for me, and no "Chase Bank" for them! :rotfl2:

Long story simplified... make the kids a email account, and create their own apple id. That way they can FaceTime each other...

Thank you ladies! I went ahead and created them their own emails but had to use my birthdate because google would not allow them to have their own. I also wanted to set them up with YouTube and Im still tinkering with that, DD7 is Monster High obsessed yet shes never watched an episode so I am adding all the videos to a playlist for her to watch =) DD9s iPod was the first one I set up and well I had some of my own apps as well like Mixology, Wine Taster, Ect for my own entertainment I had to go back and clear hers. OPPS

My daughter & I have iPhones and the younger 2 have shuffles. We all share an iTunes account. My oldest has her own email address on her iPhone - but does not have her own apple ID. She (and I) use Facetime just fine. Maybe it's a quirk with the iTouch's, since her phone obviously has it's own phone #.

You don't need to reset factory settings. Just click the manual select box. Choose what you want to sync and then click "apply" in the bottom corner. It will sync only what you want and take off whatever you don't. You can also go in and set up restrictions. When my daughter got in trouble I stripped her phone of all apps and set up the restrictions (with a pass code) so she could not go online, download, install, remove apps - etc. All it did was text and call. We text each other or I would have taken that off too! lol So if you want to restrict your kids from downloading apps - particularly if you have a CC attached to your iTunes & they know the password - it's *very* easy to do.

Good Job!

You will want to go back, plug in the kids ipod and check "maually add songs/apps" Deleting them from the screen isn't enough. The next time the kids sync the ipod, iTunes will add them (again and again) unless you chose the maual feature.

I made the kids a hotmail account because that is what I use, and I assume you made your kids google accounts because that is what you use. However, I learned a nifty trick in Hotmail. When you sign the kids up for hotmail (and type the correct birthdate!) the parental controls pop up. A biggie is that I can chose WHO their contacts are and they can only recieve emails from those contacts. If they want to add a new contact they have to get permission from me.

Anyway, it is something to consider, and let the kids get their feet wet using email, but rest assuring that they aren't getting email/spam from strangers, etc...
