Question on DVC Contract Numbers

I got to thinking of this the other day when my sister joined DVC 18 years after I did.

In answering some of her questions about DVC, I mentioned my contract number. She said it had to be wrong since while mine was only 4 digits, hers was, I think, 6, before any decimal.

So, what I was wondering is, do the contract numbers tell anything about when purchased, home resort, something like that? Or are they just issued sequentially by Disney as they are written?

Who knows how they started out originally. If a contract is bought as an add on, the number is changed to match the new owners master contract number prefix. If it is sold as a master contract, it keeps the original number. Your master may have been a original and hers a resale?

Nope. She bought BLT direct from Disney, above my objections, I might add.

So both contracts were direct. I've added on and have the sub contract numbers after the decimal to prove it, but the master numbers are the ones I'm curious about.

wdrl would be the best person to ask.

I believe the digits after the decimal indicate the individuals number of contracts (starting at 000 for the first contract). For example, if _______.002 would mean it's the owners 3rd contract.

Additionally, I believe the start of the contract indicates the first resort a person bought at.

less than 6 digits before the decimal, I believe means OKW.
4xxxxxx.xxx indicates BWV
5xxxxxx.xxx indicates WLV
6xxxxxx.xxx indicates BCV
7xxxxxx.xxx indicates SSR
9xxxxxx.xxx indicates AKV
10xxxxxx.xxx indicates BLT
11xxxxxx.xxx (maybe VGC)

This fits with my contract (OKW) and my sister's (BLT) since mine is 4 digits and hers starts with 100xxxx.

Thanks.

We currently have 3 different memberships. Our first, purchased direct thru DVC at OKW back in 1993 is a 4 digit number beginning with 8 (8xxx.0, 8xxx.1, etc.) This membership has contracts going up to 8xxx.7 .

Our other two unique memberships were purchased via resale. One has a 5 digit number (plus suffix) beginning with 35 (35xxx.00 - also at OKW) and the other has a 7 digit number beginning with 3004 (3004xxx.00 at HH). All were purchased by the end of 1999.

My understanding is that the contracts have been numerically noted by the next number available in the sequence when contracts are recorded. So, the lower the number, the earlier it was originally purchased.

I believe that the Membership number itself identifies the original Home resort included in that membership and how many memberships were sold at time.

Our 12 digit original membership ends in xxxxx0108xxx - where I think the 01 identifies OKW (as the first DVC resort) and the remaining 5 digits mean that we were among the first 8,000+ buyers.

Our 2nd OKW membership (purchased resale) ends in xxxxx01360xx and indicates OKW again (01) and that the membership was purchase among the first 36,000+ buyers at OKW.

Our HH membership (purchased resale) ends in xxxxx03041xx and indicates HH (as the third DVC resort) and that the membership was among the first 4100+ buyers at HH. Our other HH points are in contracts attached to our original OKW membership. We were among the very early buyers at HH - purchasing a full year before the resort opened when the Beach House foundation was being poured for the parking garage and the resort itself was a hard hat area and guests were not allowed over on the island at all. Since those HH contracts are tied to the OKW membership, there is no unique notation identifying the purchases other than where they sit in the numeric order of that membership. (8xxx.5, 8xxx.7)

None of our contacts have more than one decimal place.

Thanks, Doc.

Yes, my member # for OKW is just like yours, with the 108 in the same place.

I didn't even think of asking about that in my original question, but that's a fun fact to know.

It reminds me of many, many years ago when I was just starting as a CPA for a big public accounting firm. One of our clients back then was AMEX, and people on that client were able to complete anyone's AMEX card number by knowing just a few of the digits. This was way before the internet - heck, it was before person computers!. So it was a neat parlor trick to show you knew how AMEX used the card numbers as check digits so they could identify bogus cards.

Makes sense the Disney numbers mean something, but I was focusing on the contract # rather than the member #. I'm glad you pointed that out.
