Question on discounts

I have a questions on getting discounts. We took our kids to Disney World 2 times in 07. Both trips we stayed at the GF and paid full price (no discounts). The second time we even paid for concierge in the main building. I just booked another trip to the GF in March for my family, my parents and my sister. I seem to be spending a lot of money and getting some sort of discount would be great. How do they determine who gets the discount cards? DH does not want to get a Disney Visa or join the DVC so am I out of luck on ever getting any offers?

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Pin codes, via email, snail mail, etc are totally random. The best bet for getting a pin seems to be to sign up for the free planning dvd and anything else Disney has to offer.

Your other option would be to get an AP and use that rate or to join AAA.

I'm in the same boat. We're planning our third trip and paid rack rate during peak season for the Poly, concierge last time. I just keep watching these boards!

I think you'd easily make your money back plus some by joining AAA. I think it would cost you something like $64 to join. For my May stay at the Poly, I'm saving $40 a night, so it's quickly paying for itself. I've never recieved any sort of PIN offer or anything, but I've used my AAA rate several times. And, of course, the AAA membership offers you benefits besides just the Disney discount. Although, typically, you don't get a AAA discount on packages, so you'd need to piece everything together seperately and that wouldn't work if you want the dining plan.

On my upcoming trip in July I have saved $175 on my room with the AAA rate. So, membership is around $65 per year, I'm still ahead $110. I would say that it's worth getting a membership just for the savings at WDW alone.

Your chances increase if you stay away from holidays. Disney tends to black out all holidays now from discounts. Being flexible in where you want to stay also helps. Often there are discounts at some resorts, but not all and if you are willing to change resorts there is sometimes a discount available. Also, often the smaller the resort, the less the discount available. Disney offers discounts to fill rooms during slower times of the year. If a resort is near capacity, there won't be discounts at that resort. Hope this helps.
