Question on discounts for Spring Break

I am planning our 20th wedding anniv trip and we are trying to decide on where to stay. I have priced out Poly where we have never stayed and have talked about for our anniv. It shows room rates of $630 a night.

Our trip would be March 31-April 5. Last year these dates were blacked out. Assuming they are again, has anyone ever packed rack rate at these prices?

I hate the thought of it but you only have a 20th anniv once. I plan to call later and see if I can at least get a AAA discount. Has anyone used that during spring break?

My guess is that if you call now, you will probably still be able to at least get the AAA discount for spring break. The AAA discounts do run out, though, so if you know your dates you should go ahead and nail that down at the very least. That's what I've done now for my January trip while I wait to see if something better comes out.

Sometimes they have FD or RO discounts for spring break - have definitely seen people get them, just depends on where exactly the dates fall.

I did call and could get a 10% discount for Poly with AAA. That saves $354.00. The deposit though to hold the room was $637.87. Just seems like alot of money to tie up this far in advance.

If you change to a pkg and add tickets you can keep the AAA on the room portion and you only have to pay the $200 deposit. That said they will do a new reservation the requires a new deposit and cancel the room only so it would be a few days up to a whole credit card cycle to see the refund. I'd rather be out $200 for now though than 600 since it's a ways away.

Just so the OP is not confused though...you can't actually book a AAA package throught Disney, only room only. The OP would have to book through a AAA office to retain the AAA discount, and turn it into a package with tickets/dining.

you sure? You can get a AAA rate through Disney with a pkg. You might have to book the pkg first then call Disney and add the AAA rate to the room portion

Really? I didn't think that was an option. Have you personally done that?

So, for right now, AAA will be the best you can do. If you really don't want to tie up the $600.00, the only way of getting around that would be to book an AP room with dining, which would be a package, and fall under all of the package rules, including a $200.00 deposit. But that would mean you would be paying rack rate for the room..at least for now, until discounts are released for that time period.

Not recently but yes I've had a pkg booked thru Disney with a AAA discount on my room portion in the past.

Doesn't matter now though since OP has an AP

We have done several ANNIVERSARY trips to WDW - and ours is April 6, which is nearly always spring break.

Not being sticklers for exact date celebration, we either move our trip forward or backward to a better block of dates, thus saving a bunch of money, not just on WDW, but on airfare as well!

This past spring we celebrated our 20th by doing a DREAM cruise and taking our daughter & granddaughter along. Spent 1 day pre and 4 days post cruise at WDW and had a ball. Then, with the money saved by doing the 3/18-21 cruise, we were able to have a very nice dinner in a great local restaurant on our 'actual' anniversary.

Just sayin' - it's an option, anyway. :rolleyes1
