Question on buying specialty tickets

Forgive me if this comes out wrong 'cause it's been forever and a day since we've been to Disney and I'm completely out of the loop with anything concerning Disney. But a friend and I were talking yesterday about her trip this summer. She was saying that her husband is a big Star Wars fan. She told me that she would have loved to buy him tickets to something Star Wars related (not sure exactly what she said, but I'm assuming it's some Star Wars party, I don't know) She said she couldn't buy them because she was staying off site. Is this true? I thought no matter where you stayed, if you wanted to attend specialty shows/parties etc you just had to buy the tickets. Or do you HAVE to be on site?

There's a star wars dessert party and you dont need to be on-site to buy them. the party just needs to be available for the time they're going as well as a ticket to enter the park - as of now they look to be available through July 31st. however whether there are any tickets available, you or she will have to call to find out. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/hollywood-studios/galactic-dessert-party/
