I have been to Disney the past three years and plan on going again. We typically stay at Moderate Resorts, but I was interested in looking into renting points and staying at a villa. Where do I start? I have calculated the points needed to cover the stay. What is the best way to find someone to rent from, and also to find out if the room would even be available?

I found another website (which I won't name) that brokers points, but it appears they charge a $91 deposit just to even see if the room is available.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

You might want to start be reviewing the **How to use this Board** thread near the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board. There is a lot of good information there about DVC rentals from members.

Each rental is a unique transaction between a potential renter and a DVC member willing to make a reservation. In the case of a rental broker, the terms have been set by the broker (including the refundable deposit), but the rental is still accomplished through a DVC Member who will make the reservation and abide by the terms of the agreement made with the broker. With rentals made directly through a Member without a broker, the terms should be agreeable by both parties, a contract provided by the Member (DVC requires a contract - and one is implied even if the member fails to provide one). Some members may require a deposit and other may not. I would certainly not send any money to anyone without asking for (and verifying) references, reading past posts to get a feel for the member, asking for contact information (including home address and phone number). If you are not 100% comfortable with any aspect of the rental, do not send any money to a stranger you just "met" on the internet. Due diligence and trust are key components of any rental transaction. DVC will not assist in any way with a rental.

Good luck! :)

Same advice for owners as for prospective renters :) A good start is to read the **How to use this Board** - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING Sticky Thread at the top of the Rent/Trade Board.

Another way is to use one of the point rental brokers, such as David's Vacation Rentals. David (aka Daddio) is one of the DVC Board sponsors.
