I'm at the 26 day mark, and the other person that was to go with me is now backing out :headache:.
I know I need to call MS tomorrow, but will there be any fine I would have to pay?? :worried:.
This is the first time using my points and I'm still learning. TIA.

PS.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE:yay:

Are you canceling the reservation? If so there is no fine to pay. Your points will go into a holding account that is the only penalty.

There will be no "fine" but the points you used will have some restrictions on your cancellation because it is within 31 days of checkin. You will need to use the points by the end of your use year (they can't be banked into the next use year) and you can only use the points to book a reservation that is 60 days or less from check-in. During some times of the year the availability of DVC rooms 60 days before check-in can be pretty limited. If you think that this will be an impossible situation for you then you might consider using the Rent/Trade forum here on the DIS to rent the reservation to someone else. Renting is not without risks, so please do some research here on the DIS before pursuing that option. Many members do rent with no problems and appreciate the cash that it generates.
Some DISers have reported that Member Services will allow a once-in-a-lifetime chance to avoid the late cancellation rules, so you might ask about that when you call. Good luck! Such a shame that this happened on your first DVC trip! I assume that you can't find anyone else to go with you?

NO I'm still going . Thanks for letting me know:thumbsup2. Have you ever gone solo?? Not sure what 1 person would do, I have always gone with family. It seems every odd to me going by myself, but my plane ticket is free and non-refundable and I don't want to waste my DVC points(in holding).

I've never travelled solo either - bit it seems to me that you do whatever YOU want to do ... :lmao:

Did you want to change your accomodations to something smaller? Or just removing your guest from your reservation? If you are just dropping your guest, it's no problem at all. And if you bought the dining plan, you just drop that guest from the dining plan.

But if you need to change your accomodations, you'll be limited to what is still available and if you use fewer points, those points will go into holding. That means you can only use them for a reservation 60 days out. And you won't be able to bank those points. You'll have to use them before the end of your use year.

I'm sorry your friend has backed out of the trip. I've only gone solo at WDW for one day so I can't offer much advice but the DISboards' Disney for Adults and Solo Travelers Forum might have some useful information for you. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

I'll stay at the Resort I picked and I just need to drop the person from my reservation & No dining plan was added. So it's just me. Thank you all for your help, just every sad that my son could not make the trip. He's in the Navy and rec a promotion and is in between ranks(it's called in transit, I think),he rec the rank ,but not the ceremony for it yet or the raise in pay,,so he's stuck for another month or so.. Thanks again...

OP, glad you aren't canceling! I have done 2 solo trips and loved them! It is great to explore without worrying that everyone else in the group is happy. I found solo dining to be a little awkward at first but got used to it. I booked some tours and experiences that I wouldn't do with my DH. Go and have a blast!

jekjones1558,
I'll just set my mind to having a great time and feel the Disney Magic:goodvibes

I've been in Orlando for business without my husband and son a few times. Since we usually have APs. I always rent a car for my stay and head to WDW every chance I can while I am there. My coworkers don't want to go to WDW, so I go by myself. I find this a great time to dine where I want to dine, when I want to dine. And I can go on all the attractions that I love and shop around a bit. I make my ADRs ahead of time.

You'll have a great time by yourself. Might have been nicer with your son, but, nevertheless, you'll have fun.

I love traveling with friends and family but I REALLY love traveling alone!

Yes, dining alone (anywhere) the first time was a little strange but once I got over it I found journaling, reading, people watching, really enjoying what I ordered, having only salad and dessert if I wanted, were all ways to focus on the positive and not on being alone.

You could catch a movie at downtown disney. Do something really crazy like ride a coaster at each of the parks in one day. Sleep in. Stay up late. Get up super early for EMH AM rope drop. Read by the pool. Eat 3 character meals in a day! Just whatever you want in the moment! :cloud9:

Thank you for your son's service and I'm sorry he is missing out on this trip but I hope you will have a restorative and fun time!

It will be years before I can do a solo trip due to the little ones but it is on my list! You should do a trip report!!! Then I can live vicariously through you! :D ENJOY!!!

My trip in November was solo. No one else had the time or $ to go along. Different from traveling with friends and family, but it was very nice. I used the single rider lines for the major coasters, and I dined solo at Chefs de France, Brown Derby, Olivia's, The Plaza, and Coral Reef. I could do exactly what I wanted to do, and just decided to make the best of it and enjoy myself. I really enjoyed being able to relax in the huge one bedroom.

I did meet up with fellow moderator JimC and his wife for a nice lunch at Raglan Road.

One of my favorite trips ever was a solo trip. Some mornings I would wake up with a plan A and a plan B to choose from, but would end up going with a plan C that I hadn't even considered. I just loved being spontaneous and doing whatever I liked. I'm sure you're disappointed that your son can't join you, but I hope you have a wonderful time (and I'm sure that you will!)

I was able to get a hold of MS today and was able to make the changes that I needed to and also for my trip in Dec. So I'm good to go.:thumbsup2 THAT YOU ALL:wizard:

The only other thing I can add, and I have travelled the globe solo is, treat yourself to other things that you might not do because of expense. The backstage tours, the Richard Petty driving, chefs table at special resturants. Enjoy and live it up.:cool1:
