As I have posted several times before, My DD had her appendix out almost three weeks ago on April 7th. It was infected and she was in the hospital for a week. Two things concern me and the Surgeons office is not being helpful.

Question 1 Is it normal to have some discomfort at the incision site at 2 1/2 weeks post op? It is not red, or has pus or any fever at all. She just says it hurts from time to time. She looks like she is healing very well, and she says it is both inside and outside.

Question 2 Did anyone have hip pain? Thst seems unrelated, but I again could not get help from surgeons office.

Thanks for any imput!

As someone who hasn't had their appendicitis out, but who has had abdominal surgery, it is quite normal for the incision site to still be tender at this time. Mine bothered me for up to 3 months, either slightly tender, or VERY itchy. Also, it is completely normal for the area around the incision to become "numb". This is because some of the smaller nerves get damaged from the cutting and can take a LONG time to completely recover. I had my surgery 6 years ago, and I still have some "numbness" in that area. It doesn't bother me, more if I touch close to it and I don't feel it! It is part of the healing process and it will go away.

That makes me feel a little better! I feel like I have no good docs to turn to. I have a message to the pediatrician, but they mis diagnosed her to begin with and I think they are money grubbers so I know she will tell me to come in so they can bill insurance. They will charge me for calling to begin with! I can't stand this!

It took me about 9 months to really start feeling better after my appendix was taken out. A big part of the problem that I had was that I lost a lot of blood. The pain right after the surgery was worse than the pain before the surgery. I remember being miserable for a few weeks and tired for much longer. I think the discomfort that your daughter is feeling is normal. Keep in mind that even though it is a small incision the muscle was still cut and it take times for that to heal. My son was 10 months old when I had my surgery. I have told people child birth was easier than having my appendix out.

My DD didn't lose any blood that I know of, but she was MISERABLE that week after! It sure looked worse than childbirth, in fact when she has kids I will tell her just that, becasue I think she has been through the war!! Tthe stupid surgeon's appointment desk was saying to take her to ER, with no other triage, and she is not feeling that bad. I just started this out because I want to talk to a Surgeon closer to the two weeks (they called us to reschedule for further out) I have a call to the yahoo we currently call her doctor and if she says the same I will do it, but she has no fever and the sites look good, healing nicely. Her abdomen even feels soft! I feel better about my decision. Anyone who wants to tell me I am wrong please do so! I need a gague here.

Your daughter sound like she's doing just fine. As long as there's no fever, no reddness, no drainage thats great. Pain at the area is normal and the hip pain is probably related to muscle pain. You'd be amazed at the amount of tugging that goes on during surgery. The hip pain could also be because she is walking funny due to the pain at the incision.

I got mine out through my belly button(they were infected too) and yes my side still hurt for atleast a couple of months afterwards. They must be really rough in there. I think that it just takes a long time before you can actually do what you did before or lift anything. {HUGS}

Thank you all so much! I am pulling out the gray hairs as fast as they are growing!!!! DD came home from school, ate a snack and doubled over in pain saying her tummy hurt. I gave Ibuprofin and asked her if she needed to go to the bathroom- she did and then I asked if she felt any better and she said the pain was gone all within three minutes time. I am always scared!!! Geez! I do feel better hearing from all of you but a six year old articulating pain is like asking a baby to come up with a fully formed sentence!!!!!
