Question for those with little princesses...

I am so excited that we got a reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table this morning!!! And for the end of this month, how awesome is that? I'm debating on if she should wear a princess costume, and if so, for how long?

Right now she has a long sleeve sleeping beauty costume that is itchy, and an awkward Ariel mermaid one. Do you think she could wear a costume for just breakfast, then take it off for the park? Or are there a lot of kids wearing them all day? Do you think if I bought a nicer version of the costumes that it wouldn't be so cheap and itchy?

BTW - DD is 4 1/2.

My understanding is that lots of kids wear the costumes (mine will be in about a week and a half). I'd be prepared to change her out afterwards -- and also prepared to let her wear it for a while. Lots of kids wear them in the park, too... just keep an eye open for discomfort, and make her change even if she doesn't want to if you have to.

Check out the dresses at www.mydressuptrunk.com! I bought my DD one 2 years ago, and it still looks great (and believe me, it is worn LOTS)! They are completely washable, very soft and light. We rolled it up in a big ziploc baggie, put it in our backpack, then pulled it on over her shorts and shirt before our CRT lunch in June 2007. She wore it all afternoon. . .Loved being addressed as a princess when we got on a ride! (The Jungle Cruise captain was great. . .he announced to everyone to look sharp, that royalty was on board!! She was beaming.) She has the Cinderella dress. We're considering getting a different one for our trip this summer.

Defintely bring a gown. Let her wear it until she tells you that she doesn't want to anymore and I am sure she will let you know when she is done wearing it. Some kids wear them all day long, some for only the meal, some for a little longer. It all depends on your child. I pack shorts and a Tank in my backpack because I knew my girls wouldnt wear a gown all day. When they were done with the gown we would go over to the nearest bathroom to change. Because the stalls are tight quarters, my girls always wore a bathing suit underneath so we didn't have to use a stall. We wouldn't take up a handicapped stall just to change.

We got the Cindy dress from the disney store and DD wore it from BBB at 8:00 through a 12:30 lunch at the Royal Table. AWe got the spring dress. It was a lot less itchy than the haloween one.

DD (5) has a different princess dress for everyday we are at the parks. Sometimes she wears them all day, sometimes for just a few hours. It usually depends on the weather.

I bought all DD's at the Disney Store. They are beautiful, though not cheap and she never complains they are itchy.

When we did the princess breakfast both my dd and ds dressed up. Dd loved the attention she got from everyone that day and left hers on ALL day.. up until the last goodnight princess as we were leaving EPCOT. DS on the other hand want out of his pirate outfit later in the day. we took clothes for each of them to change into.

DD3 wore Snow White all day in the park without a complaint, as well as Cinderella. She wore Ariel's Wedding dress for 1/2 the day at Epcot, but then changed after PSB cause it just got too hot. She also wore Ariel mermaid until after breakfast at CP on morning...she may have worn it all day , but it is a little big on her so the skirt kept slipping down annoying her. If DD is going to change I recommend bringing a travel Space Bag (the roll out the air kind) as not to take up a lot of room in you backpack and protect it from getting wet/messed up. Also, remember to bring comfy shoes if your princess plans to stay in the costume all day.

My daughter always wears her princess dresses for a full day. She loves them! We bring one for each day.

Some of my daughter's dresses seem itchy, so I taped the seams with fabric or paper medical tape. It works great.

I happened to have a roll in my travel first aid kit so I taped up a whole dress for her and she was happy. After that, I taped up a few more (until I ran out of tape!) and there were no complaints.

My DD wears her costume dresses form Disney store even though she complaints of being itchy, she loves ot dress up to go meet her favorite princesses at CRT but I always bring a change of clothes for her. Last time at CRT the restroom looked more like a dressing room, it was crowded!

When we ate at CRT about 30% had costumes on. And we saw a handful throughout each park with their costumes on each day. If your DD is really into it, definately dress her up. Where else can they feel like such royalty?
My DD was only 2 1/2 when we ate at CRT. I just put her in a really cute princess outfit.

As a side note, there is a more spacious bathroom to change on the other side of Peter Pan from the CRT entrance... don't plan on using the bathroom in CRT - it has maybe 3 teeny stalls and EVERY young lady and her mom at CRT will be changing / pottying at the same time!

We changed into the dress by Peter Pan, then made the mistake of changing out of the dress in CRT - talk about squished!

But DD loved being dressed for breakfast - it was just too itchy to wear all day - we shoved it in a backpack.

Thanks for all the info, I just went ahead and ordered a nice Cinderella costume from Target. That model is so cute in the dress I just couldn't resist! It looks like it'll fit much better than her Sleeping Beauty and Ariel ones.

My DD wore her Sleeping Beauty dress all day long. She complained it was itchy before we left, so I took a cami tee and cut the straps on it and safety pinned it into the dress so the "itchy" stuff wouldnt bother her. She was 4 at that time. She also wore last year a cinderella dress and a jasmine costume. She NEVER once asked to take either of them off. She loved being dressed up and the attention she got from cast members. Try the tee shirt idea and see if your DD feels more comfortable that way and she may want to wear it all day long.......
