Question for those who wear eye glasses

DS lost his RX sunglasses on a coaster one year....now we are quite careful to take off glasses and secure them in a hard case...in a bag attached to a body.

Made for a very uncomfortable vacation after that.

DH and I both has lasik last year, so we don't worry about the cheap $5 sunglasses...but still watch those RX glasses on the boys very carefully!

Piggybacking on this thread, I know...

Has anyone had experience with the magnetic type of clip-on sunglasses that come with some eyeglasses?

I've never had problems with my eyeglasses before - wear them on everything - but my current pair is the first that came with a pair (set?) of sunglasses that stick to the glasses with magnets (I am probably wording this incorrectly; however, anyone who has them will probably know what I mean).

Do you think these things would stay on during most rides?

Will be there next week!! Whoo Hoo!!

I never have problems with my glasses. I can't see 2 inches in front of me without my glasses so I leave mine on for all the rides (haven't done MS though). I also have the magnetic sunglasses. I always take that off and put them in a eyeglass case and shove that in my backpack when I get in line for a ride.

:) Hi all,
Just curious - those of you who wear eye glasses which rides do you remove them for if any? I have been to WDW before but haven't done any of the real "thrill" rides except BTMR and SplashM. I'm curious about things like RNR, MS, or EE. I'm very near sighted and would hate to lose my glasses at Disney. Also where do you store them if you do remove them? TIA :sunny: !

I wear eye glasses, and always leave them on during all WDW rides. Never a problem for me. However, I do not ride Mission Space so I don't know about that one. And I might mention that during the big drop at Splash Mountain I take them off while the log is climbing up the hill just before the drop because the water mist makes it hard to see the displays at the end of the ride. I put my eyeglasses in my pocket for the drop, and put them back on after the drop so that they will be nice and clear after the spray.

I do tend to hold onto to my glasses during the fast part of Test Track because of the wind; but I doubt that they would fly off in any case.

Expedition Everest was no problem either.

If you ever have doubts about leaving your eyeglasses on during a ride, just ask the CM as you board.

Enjoy.

I'm glad that this question was asked. The DH wears glasses, and unfortunately, contacts are not an option for him as he can't wear them.
I know that this is something that I will worry about since he lost his last year at the beach!! Bless his heart, he can't see anything without them, so it really would make it hard to have a great vacation if he can't see anything.
The thing that worrys me most is the water parks though. I've seen a lot of you mention the straps...how exactly do they work?
TIA!

I had the same struggles with glasses(and contacts) intil I has Lasik surgery. Bes thing I ever did!

RnR is normally the only one I can recall taking them off (I did almost lose them the first time I ever rode it).I had last trip on Space Mountain too, because they seemed more loose than normal.

I sometimes will take them off for water rides. Now at the waterparks, I just leave them either in the car or the rental locker. I hate not being able to see while there, but just too much hassle trying to keep up with them.

I either hold them or slide them in an outside pocket of my backpack, depending on the ride.

I've never taken mine off for rides, nor do I use a strap, etc. The only ride I've never gone on is MS (and it'll be a cold day somewhere before I go on that ride! :lmao: ). I just make sure they're on securely before take-off.

I wear a sports strap and didn't have any problem with them even coming close to comming off. On the flip side my biggest problem was having them fog up after leaving a building with AC.

Same here. Never a problem at TT, SM, TOT, or any other ride. But every time I go on RNRC I forget to take my glasses off. 3...2...1... Bam 0-60 MPH in a couple seconds and I can feel my glasses move around so I quickly grab them. I don't know if they would actually fly off, but I don't want to find out.

And yes, I'm aware of contact lenses. I wore them for 15 years, and just don't want to use them anymore. My eyes get extremely dry, and I've tried the newest versions.

If your glasses fit you correctly, they're not going to fly off on a ride. If you bend over to tie your shoes and they leave your nose, they don't fit correctly.

I should think you'd be a lot more likely to lose them holding them in your hand if your arm got jostled. I've ridden all the big speed rides (RnR, M:S, TOT, Space Mtn) without a problem.

It's also a good idea if you don't carry an extra pair with you, at least to have a copy of your prescription in your suitcase -- it can definitely save a vacation if you need a new pair, especially if it's the weekend and there's no way to call your doc at home!

I wouldn't wear them myself. Simply because most rides are indoors and it gets kinda hard to see with sunglasses on. So, just stick them in your pocket when on the rides.

BTW, DH and I have never had a problem wearing eyeglasses on any ride, and we ride all the thrill rides.

My DH only took off his glasses on RNR. He left them on for all the other rides. We did not go on MS ... but all the other thrills like EE & all the Mountains ... even left them on ToT. Now chicken me, took them off on everything! Except ToT and the picture of me shows me holding them cause I was scared of losing them! I think you are pretty safe but it never hurts to get some sort of lanyard thing ... that's just me ...
