Question for those who have booked more nights than you want to get the ones you need

As many of us know Disney's reservation computer will often show no availability for a 3 night stay, but if you look up a 7 night stay, with those same 3 days smack in the middle of it, amazingly those nights are available.

My question for those who have booked the extra nights is this.... Does Disney give you a hard time when you cancel the extra nights?

Not at all. I do it all the time. I find it very odd that if you only want to book a weekend, the system says "no availability". Yet, when you expand your search to a week, or even two weeks, you are able to get the weekend you are looking for. So, you book it, and then turn around and call CRO to cancel the dates you do not need. My guess is that Disney is playing with your emotions making you think you "need" to stay longer. Uh.... I only get so much time off from my job and Disney doesn't have the power to change that!

Numerous complaints to CRO go unanswered and unnoticed.

Nope - no problem at all.

And we called them with something far crazier than just dropping nights recently. We had 2 reservations and had to drop all but one night on one and add it to the other.

I'm sure the poor guy's head was spinning, but he was a trooper and kept his sunny disposition throughout. :)

And sometimes it works! I wanted a 4 night stay in November, but had to book 6 to get the dates I wanted. Before I could call and cancel, hubby said "Ah, wth, we might as well stay the two extra nights!!" :cool1:
Luckily, we are both self-employed and can make our own schedule. So Disney might just know what they're doing...like Jedi mind tricks!

Yep, I do it all the time and I tell the CRO reps exactly WHY I do it, and most of them go, NO WAY.... that's nuts. (Meaning they think the reservation system is nuts).

I just did it too! We have a trip in two weeks and I cancelled my extra days just on Wed. They gave me no problem whatsoever...now if I could just do the same thing w/ dinner ressies.....having real problems with that!

We do this also. One of our friends told me that they booked the extra days, and then modified the reservation down to the 3 they needed, on the same call. No problems.

We do this all the time too. Isn't it crazy that we have to do that, not sure why those days that are needed just aren't available online, but suddenly there they are, when you book the entire week! For me, I don't mind calling back to revise, if that's the worst thing in life! Just glad that we're going to the Fort!

I had to book the whole month for Thanksgiving week this year. I cancelled the unneeded days about a week later and got no flack. The people on the boards here were great to let me know this was okay and not bad manners. I say go for it.

I'm pretty sure it's capacity control. When the weekends get booked to a certain level, then the "weekend only" blocking goes into effect.

This way folks that DO want a week or more can get reservations.

It's their lame attempt at not having the place totally fill up on Fri/Sat night and empty out again on Sunday. I'm sure Friday and Sunday are crazy for them as it is.

Being there during a slow time, we really noticed it empty out after the weekend.
