Question for those that bring a golf cart - truck related

I'm looking to upgrade my TV from a Jeep Liberty (only have a higwall PUP at this point) to a truck. I'm looking to get into a trailer in a few years, but in the meantime I'd like to get a golf cart to take camping.

For those of you who bring a cart along with you, do you carry it in the bed of the truck? I'm looking at an F250/350 and don't know if I should be looking for a 6.5' bed or an 8' bed.

You would have a hard time fitting a golf cart in a 6.5 foot bed unless you leave the tailgate down. Most two to four person carts fall in the 91" to 108" length range.

You will have to get an 8 foot bed most likely. My golfcart has the rear seat, so it has the foot rest for the rear as well which adds about 12-16 inches in length. This prevents me from shutting the tailgate. I cannot leave the tailgate down and pull the camper because the tailgate and electric jack are too close together. I am putting in an auxillary fuel tank, which will take up about 10-12 inches of bed space, which pretty much means no cart unless I leave the tailgate down. I would rather ride my bike than have to keep stopping for diesel fuel fill ups.

What about taking the tail gate off completely? I'm trying to research the wheel base and bumper-to-wheel lengths of some golf carts. Do any of your golf cart tires sit on the tailgate?

Thankfully we don't have a cart, I could see I would end up building ramps to park on high enough to close the tailgate. Oh the nightmare.

We have an 8 foot bed, we have to take the tailgate off. From wheel to wheel ours is 85 inches. The front sticks out 3 inches in front of the wheel. The whole length is 110 inches.

I have a 6.5 ft box and have hauled my cart with the tailgate down, it does require that I use a modified tongue jack (handle removed and a nut welded onto the shaft, I then use my 1/2" cordless impact to put the jack up and down) I have to remove the jack once the rig is hooked up so that the tailgate wont hit it on tight turns. My hitch is a little longer than some models so you would have to make sure that yours would give you enough room between the jack and tailgate.
You may want to consider removing the tailgate, this will give you more room and reduced the risk of damage to the tailgate by driving the cart onto it. I have seen a few that have broken the cables and or bent the tailgate due to the weight on the cart. A std cart will fit all 4 tires on the floor of the bed as long as its all the way forward. You will also need to secure the cart from moving forward or backwards when in the bed. Imagine that weight going forward if you were to hit something. The bulkhead on the bed and the back of the cab are not all that sturdy and the cart could easily intrude in an accident.
If its at all practical the 8 ft box is way better suited for hauling a cart.
