We're thinking 3 years ahead to the possibility of a villa holiday in Aug 2009. Is it advisable to have the pool heated at this time of year or is it an un-necessary expense? We're trying to work out roughly how much it's going to cost overall and heating the pool will add about £200 to the bill. Thanks in advance for any info! :thumbsup2

Hi, if you visit in August you will not require pool heating.
Generally during the summer months it will be warm enough without it.
We go in August and have never needed it.

One thing to possibly bear in mind when you eventually look for a villa is to get one with a South facing pool, then you get the sun all day which does help to keep the pool at a nice temperature.

We have been a few times in August, and can say you definetly will not need to have the pool heated! The weather is hot hot hot!!! :sunny:

We aren't having ours heated this August John, based on how we found it in September years back. There was no need :teeth: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

We have been twice in august and again this year and will not be having the pool heated its sooo hot :sunny:

Hi!
Save your money for spendo, you definately wont need pool heat for August.
But if there is a jetted spa-do realise this will be the same temperature as the pool if not heated seperately.

Kind Regards,
Lynn

I have just booked a villa for April next year and hubby and I have been wondering whether to pay extra to have the pool heated as its $20 a day. Would anyone recommend doing this?

Difficult one in April Claire, personally overall I would say yes.
However, it can depend on the pool and which way it is facing, if it faces south this means it will have the sun all or most of the day which can help.

It's a toss of the coin on this one I am afraid, but if it was me I would get the heating.
I am sure most owners may say you would not require it April through September though.

Thanks very much for your comments Johnny. Wouldn't know if pool is south facing as won't find our till we get there. I am starting to think it may be worth paying for heating esp for the children.

Paying for the heating is definitely the safe option, if you had booked one direct off an owner you would probably be in a better position regarding the pool direction.
Naturally if the sun is shining on the pool all day it does help keep warm, many owners also have a plastic sheeting - so if your pool did face south, and you put the sheet back on each evening it could help keep the pool warm enough.

We've been to Orlando in February and booked pool heating. I beleive that year it was supposed to be quite hot for February but the pool was more like a jacuzzi! Most of the Villa's we've been to have come with a pool cover which mean if you cover then at night they don't lose much of the heat they gained in the day. I've also been in April and didn't book pool heating and the pool temperature was fine but it is difficult to say as a couple of degrees C can make a big difference, especially as some people tend to like a pool to be hot when they first go in.

Your best bet would be to look at the average temperature for April which is about 83 F (daytime) 60 F (evening) and check the temperature at your local pool it should be about 80 - 84 F. Pool heating will raise the temperature of the pool by 10 - 20 F. Generally as we are all keen swimmers we would prefer a slightly cooler pool but this is down to personal preference.

Hope the info helps. :thumbsup2

I would not pay for heating of the pool. We were in Orlando 2yrs ago in August, extremly humid, pool was not heated and was a nice welcome after a day at the park or shopping. I would not worry about the extra expense. You should be able to add this onto your booking once you are in the villa and decide that you do require it after all. But I would be surprised.

It is much hotter in August and you would never need pool heating, in April however it's a different story.
As I said before, it's very difficult to say for this time of the year.

Hi!
100% in April - no matter what direction of pool --- you will need pool heat.Book it in advance because it can take 24 hours to heat up.
You dont know how on the ball the MC might be-if you ring for them to switch your pool heat on,they might not be able to come out that day. Some owners charge call - out fees, some have 7 day pool heat minimum etc.

Book it and know you are going to be happy - guaranteed,

Lynn :cool1:

We owners recomend pool heat from Oct. - April. I think that you should figure it in the budget. It is better to be safe then cold very very cold.

April - you will need pool heat.

August - the pool temperature is pretty much at an 82/83 degree F and the air temperature is in the upper 90's. So it is up to your personal preferrence. I would say no for myself though.

Of course this depends on the weather (cloudy or not and how long...)

Cost approx £1000 - £1500 ish!

:scared1: I've been quoted £1485 for the whole villa for three weeks! Are you heating an Olympic-sized pool?? :rotfl:

I phoned BA today and requested pool heating so thank you very much for your advice. If we find it too hot we can just request that it is turned off through the local office and turned on again if necessary so pretty much covered.
