Hey folks,

DH and I are going to train for the 2013 WDW marathon. We need to work on pacing for this one, so I have been looking at the Nike+ wristband.

1. If you have used it, what did you think about it?

2. Does the wristband display your distance while running? I can't tell from the website. I can clearly see you get your pace, calories, heart rate and time while you run. But it sounds like you only get your distance by connecting to the wireless after the run.

3. Do you really need to get the NIke+ shoe, or can I attach the foot pod to any shoe. If I can use any shoe, how do you reommend attaching the pod?

Thanks for the info!

I do not own a sport band but have reviewed one. I found the unit to be very user friendly. The unit relies on the foot pod for distance and pace data. This can be problematic; but is not isolated to the Nike System, rather foot pod systems. The foot pod MUST be calibrated when one first uses it. Sadly, there are several folks running with incorrect information coming back to them. So unless you run with the pre-programmed stride length your data is going to generally show your pace a little faster and distance covered a little longer. Once calibrated, the unit is good to go and you will actually be out on a run faster than many of us with GPS based units since you have no satellites to acquire. Just as information, I also think it a good thing to verify calibration of the foot pod every 6-8 weeks or when one replaces the battery.

Specific questions...

2) Yes, distance is included

3) No, you can simply attach the pod to the shoe laces of your favorite shoes. The pod will have alternate attachment inctructions

I used the nike+ with the shoe pod for a long while and liked it. You don't have to have nike shoes as you can get a silicon case that ties onto your laces. Easy interface with my macbook too. But is not completely accurate in distance. I would calibrate it but still not totally accurate and my "kids" have them and they are good for recreational runners...people who are not too serious. They ran some greenways at Christmas time that I run and found they weren't doing the distance they thought they were doing but were less than a mile off.
That said...
I now have the Nike sports watch and love it . It has GPS. If you and your DH run together or at separate times you could share one. I like it because of the large numbers as I don't like to run with my glasses and the easy interface my computer.

I got the NIke+ wristband last night. Just not ready to commit to the cost of a GPS watch yet. I did a 2 mile loop this morning that I know well. The Nike+ came in at 2.2 miles (uncalibrated). Yes, my legs are that short. I calibrated it then did another run. The wristband was only off by .01 from mapmyrun.com. So I suppose that's close enough.

Of course, now that I have a pacing watch calibrated to me, DH wants one of his own. Except DH wants the Garmin Forerunner 305...:confused3. I thought running was going to be an inexpensive hobby. All you need are tennis shoes, right?!? Apparently not so much. :rotfl2:

For a sport that has no equipment, running has been one very very expensive hobby

Your 2.2 miles is not all that bad. I have a Garmin foot pod that is in the same range. You should be able to go into the watch software and calibrate.
