Question for recent Magical Express users

Here's my situation Goofy....can you help me think this one through? Three different families flying into MCO. We are coming from Minnesota, my sister and family AND my mom and husband coming from Wisconsin. My family and sister/family will be landing around 5:00. My mom however won't be landing until much later in the evening (after 10:00 for sure). My sister was thinking to just take my mom and husband's luggage (2 bags) with her since she will be flying southwest and can check 2 bags per person for free (she will take an extra one and her husband will take an extra one). This gets my mom's luggage there so she doesn't have to pick them up at MCO and saves her money to not have to check her luggage with her airline of choice.

So, with this scenario, I don't want my mom and husband to tag the bags with their ME tags because the bags would be waiting to be delivered to a room that they haven't even checked in to yet. RIGHT? If my sister takes them with her I need to get more ME tags in her name so they would all be delivered to her room after she checks in?

I hope this makes sense!
You don't have to be checked in before your bags will be moved. It would be easier if your sister had a second tag, for your moms bag, but mom can most likely use her own tag...then the bag will go to her resort and be delivered to her room after she checks in.......at least, I think so.

I guess you are referring to me, but I never told anyone at anytime to "tear them apart in the middle." What I said was. "We went last month. We each received a tag, but if you look closely, they can be divided into TWO tags."

Disney has printed directions for separating the tags into two on the back of the tags. They separate lengthwise. I thought to help the OP, not to cause some sort of problem!
No, just a general response. I just don't see how you can split the tag down the middle, and still have it be usable. The bar code would be destroyed. The only way o split one tag, into two, is to split it in that middle fold.....halfway up from the bottom...or top.

Thanks Goofy for your help. I just noticed we'll be there around the same time. We'll probably be leaving as you're coming. Enjoy.....I know we will!! :thumbsup2

It came with 6 yellow tags, two with my name, two with sons, two with daughters. Each tag has the name and a bar code on each end. The instructions on the back say to rip it in half to make two luggage tags.

So I guess I have 12 in all and probably only need 3....it does seem like a waste to send so many how would 3 people possibly bring 12 suitcases. :confused3 The only reason we need the 3rd is for my son's baseball bag. Hoping to only have one suitcase and the sport bag.

We are flying South West and they allow 2 bags per traveler!!!! We had to advise them of our arrival info so that is probably why the difference in number of tags they send.

Hmmm, they are really on top of it!

Interesting. The tags have always had a bar code and info at either end..that's why the instructions said to allow the tag to swing freely..that way the info could be scanned no matter which way the tag was situated.
Not sure why the change. My dd just flew down earlier this month...got one tag per person. Didn't notice any instructions on the reverse saying to rip them to make two tags.
Have to wonder if flying SW makes a difference. Will have to see how things shake out over the next few months.

Just FYI, on the back of the luggage tags, the first item in the instructions reads:

1. Separate at the center perforation to create two single luggage tags.

There wasn't anything like that on my dd's DME tags. So, I have to assume this is a very recent change. She got her packet back in mid-May for her mid-June trip.

Thank you! I was beginning to think I had dreamed it.

OP, you'll get one tag per person.

If you need more, I would recommend calling and requesting more. I don't believe it costs anything. The tags you get aren't really supposed to be torn in half and I wouldn't recommend doing that.

This is kind of off topic, I guess, but I would also recommend packing your suitcase and carry-on very carefully and see if you can get away with one checked bag per person in order to avoid extra checked bag fees. I am unsure of what your personal situation is...just trying to help.

No, you rip it in half lengthwise (the long way) to make 2 tags. So you have 6 tags total.

Yes, you separate at the center perforation between the 2 tags. The perforation goes lengthwise, not horizontal (short way) (if that makes sense).

Just to clear up any confusion There are 4 tags in the following picture (which I stole from somebody else.) There are not 8 tags:

These tags should not be cut in half crossways to make 8 tags.

Yes...that creates two SINGLE tags...as in one per person.

The tags should not be further torn (to create multiple tags per person).

You are mistaken, it means TWO tags per person. There are directions printed on the back of each person's tag that allow that person to divide their tag into two tags. When you get your tags, just read the back of them and all will be explained.

Yes! You are correct! These are 4 tags and should remain 4 tags. :) Thanks for the picture!

Or you could just admit you're wrong. :)

I do not believe that I am wrong. Didn't you read the post by WillAustin?

"Just FYI, on the back of the luggage tags, the first item in the instructions reads:

I also read about this in another forum here. When you get your next set of tags, you might want to look on the back of them and then you can PM me with your apology.

:rotfl: I'm well aware of the what the tags say. The instructions are referring to the fact the tags come 2 together and you need to separate them to use them, lengthwise, down the middle.

But you're welcome to rip them in half sideways and see how well it works for you. :)

I went to WDW in March and I carefully read my tags before I went, thanks. I actually still have one of the tags because DH and I only used one suitcase. I pulled it out to read it. It says to split the tags in order to create 2 single tags (i.e., separate them long-ways). It says NOTHING about splitting them a second time (i.e., short-ways). And it also has an illustration of how the tags should look once they're affixed to the bag.

See the photo that the person above you posted. That picture is of FOUR tags (not 8).

(And thanks to the person who posted that...I believe it will help clear up a lot of confusion.)
