A friend of mine has a reservation at the Royal Pacific. I recommended an annual pass so she could take advantage of the APH rates. She mistakenly bought an annual power pass instead of a preferred pass. I told her this wouldn't get her the APH rate. She emailed Universal and they told her she would be able to upgrade when she got to the park. Will she be able to apply the APH rate to her reservation even though she can't upgrade her pass until she gets there? I want to ensure that I am advising her correctly.

Thanks :sunny:

I'm not phamton, but I think I can help. You don't need an AP to book an AP rate. So, if your friend can go to the park first and upgrade her power pass there, and then check in to the hotel, she should be all set. OTOH, I have never been asked to show my AP upon check-in, although I've always had it ready. You never know when they'll ask to see it. If she does check in first and they do ask to see it, have her just explain that she only has a voucher, and ask if she can stop by later that day to show the AP.

What she said.

Yes, AlexandNessa is correct. She can just upgrade the first day she goes to the park. It will be around $60 plus tax.

yea, what they said.......

but, last month i had to show my AAA in order to get that booked room rate at rph.

good thing i really had one !!

I told my friend it would be ok and guess what!!!!! She phoned them from the UK and was passed around for half an hour, that phone calls going to cost some. She was then told that she can't do this. She was informed that she could not book the rate as she doesn't have the right pass even though she said she was going to upgrade on arrival. I don't understand. I thought you could book the rate without the pass

sorry, but your friend was given incorrect information.
you can book the on site hotel at any discount code for the AAA or AP.
if the front desk requires to see the card when you check in and you have not upgraded yet, they will charge you the rack rate.

but, they will also tell you that once you upgrade your ticket and have the AP, to come back to the front desk before you check out after your stay and they will adjust the rate back to the ap rate.

i suggest that you upgrade the day you check into the hotel then go directly back to the hotel and show them the card if they require that at check in time.

most of hte time, the hotels do not ask to see the aaa or ap card.
for the first time in 17 visits, i had to show my aaa in october at check in time. must have been a new employee...... :rolleyes1

to save time and money, next time your friend calls about the room rate, have her call the hotel direct with her questions of checking in and if proof of card has to be shown at that time. i know you will probably doubt all that i have said so if you call the hotel, they will tell you the same thing most likely. be sure to ask for the front end manager if the clerk says they don't know.

Thanks macraven. She's has now called the hotel and got it sorted but she's not very impressed with the customer service. She was actually told via e-mail and after a lengthy phone conversation that this could not be done. I was beginning to think they must have had a change in policy. The were insistent that she had to already have the pass to get the rate. It's all sorted now though :thumbsup2

send an email to the general manager at the hotel she is to stay at.

work with them so no issue at check in time for peace of mind.

you can upgrade easily at guest services on the power pass to the annual pass. phamton told you right. listen to her.

the on site hotels are owned by loews.
universal customer service did not give you the correct info on the phone.
they can not speak for the hotels.
the hotel manager can do anything he wants to for a customer.

if any policy has changed since i was there last month, i am not aware of it. but i do know the managers will not give customers a hassle over something that is legit.
they are 4.5 to 5 star hotels and do not want to tarnish that image.

It's a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. The hotel have told her it's ok and they've changed the rate to APH. She even told them that she doesn't yet have the pass and they said that's fine just as long as she has it at check-in. So I'm sure all will be well :thumbsup2
