I am just wondering how you would feel in this situation.

Yesterday in New Kent, VA there was a bomb scare in regards to the school buses. So they proceeded to stop all the buses where ever they were and got all the kids off the buses. The kids had to stand in the cold for around an hour or so and it was very cold yesterday morning

This morning on the news they are talking about how mad some of the parents are because the kids had to stand in the cold. How would you feel?

At first I could kind of understand where they were coming from but then after thinking it through, I would want to think they were doing everything in their power to make sure my kids were safe. It's not like they could send another bus. First of all they had no idea what bus the bomb could have been on and they probably don't have enough buses to send that many out.
Thank heavens it was a hoax but you never know.

So what do you think?

While it might not be nice to have the kids standing out in the cold for an hour, much better that than the alternative if there actually WAS a bomb on their bus.

I think these parents would have griped if there was a bomb scare and they KEPT the kids on the buses.

::yes:: Some people are going to gripe about anything. They have a condition called BMC

I thought the same thing. Probably be hiring the lawyers to sue the school.

I think where the school system is involved, many parents will complain about absolutely everything. For a lot of them, nothing the schools do will ever be right. Just check this board for confirmation of that. If they'd left the kids on the busses, you can be sure there would be an uproar about that today, too.

ITA. How about the senators and staffers who had to stand in a parking garage when they had the faulty sensor?

Of course I would be angry that my child was forced to stand out in the cold for an hour - but my anger would be directed at the perpetrator of this hoax.

I'm glad the authorities took action and got the kids off safely while they investigated the claim.

The authorities are looking for the person and they plan to prosecute to fullest extent of the law. It is a felony and they want this person bad.

Some people are never happy with anything anyone does.

I'm sorry the kids had to stand out in the cold but thats better than the possible alternative. I applaude the schools for taking action.

And just wait until all those kids have to live in dorms while in college. I have stood out in the freezing cold for well over two hours while there as a fire alarm in the dorms. Are these parent's going to call the colleges then and complain? Are they going to call the firemen and complain that they took too long finding the cause of the alarm? Some people cannont be pleased.

These parents are misdirecting their anger at the wrong people--aim it at the loser and criminal who called in the bomb scare in the first place.

And I agree with GEM--some people would have been upset no matter what would have been done. I would have been happy they got my child off the bus and did all they could to keep him safe.

This has happened to my son. They had to evacuate his HS one day and there was no time to get coats from lockers. They stood outside in the cold NE weather for 1/2 hour while the fire department went in. He was cold, but he told me that none of the kids were mad. I think after 911 a lot of people are scared, especially kids, and people are just happy to hear that everything tunrs our ok. No, I was not upset and neither were the other parents, but I do wish I could have known and run down there with coats and blankets for the kids!!

They did exactly the correct thing. Pull the busses over, and EVACUATE. Once everyone is clear of the vehicles, they then can be checked and cleared by trained personnel. Is it inconvenient -- yes. But it's obviously better to say, "We're sorry your kid had to stand in the cold for a while" rather than "We're sorry to tell you child was killed."

I hope the person who called this threat in is found, and is not permitted to plea-bargain. Let them be a very public example for the consiquences of stupidity.

There was a fire alarm at my daughters' pre-school last year in the middle of winter. The furnace was acting up and spewing smoke throughout the school. My DH happened to be driving by and saw all the comotion. He stopped and was able to give his coat and a couple of sweatshirts to the kids.

A little time spent in the cold is but a small price to pay for making sure our kids are safe.

I agree with GEM. some people will complain is their ice cream is cold.

If my kids were in that situation I would much rather have them standing in the cold then to have them in potential danger.
