Question for people from Cincinnati

Recently, we were at the Cincinnati zoo, and saw, much to our surprise, a little lizard like those everywhere in Florida. We live in the Indianapolis area, and don't have that kind of lizard here (it looked like an anole to me, but, it was quick, and I could have been mistaken). Are these common there? I was really surprised to see one that far north.
