I have the Kindle Paperwhite. I was a hold-out until last November. Now I don't know how I got along without it!

I currently have about 90 books on my Kindle. To keep this budget related, several of the books were borrowed from the library. Which leads to my question. After the books were returned to the library, I still have icons on my kindle that say "loan ended". I get this when I've loaned books to friends and they are returned. How do I get those icons off my Kindle? I can't seem to figure it out. I deleted them in the "Manage Your account" section on Amazon, but I'm stock on getting the icons off my Kindle. They just take up space. Any help would be appreciated.

My second question is if I delete a book I purchased so it is off my Kindle, does that book stay in my Amazon account (in case I want to put it back on my Kindle)? Or is in the Cloud? As I load more books onto the unit, I may want to take some off to save space. But if I purchased the books, I don't want them completely removed from my account. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I have an older Kindle (keyboard one) and there is way for me to right click on the library book that the loan has ended and "remove from device". Your version must have it too. I think you can log into your Amazon account, Manage my kindle, and delete it from the device there too.

Books that you purchased from Amazon stay on your account. You can download them again at any time you wish as long as you have an internet connection.

Touch and hold on the title you want to delete. A list will pop up and you can select "Delete this book."

On the topic of saving space - I have over 450 books on my Paperwhite and I'm not even close to filling it up yet, so you may not have to worry about that for a while unless you have a lot of graphics-heavy books with large file sizes. :thumbsup2

Just a tip for those that may not know, I mainly borrow books from the library on my kindle, but I can't always read them in the alloted time. If you turn wi-fi off, the book will stay on your device indefinitely and won't be removed until you turn wi-fi back on.

I don't think the loan ended notices actually take up space (except the physical space of them being on the page).

1. In the upper (ish) right hand corner of the Home screen (where all your books are). There is a drop down menu where you can choose from Books, Periodicals, All Documents, etc. If you chose Books, the "personal letters" (which are what my library notices are called) don't show up.

2. To permanantly delete them (and a bunch of other stuff that I couldn't figure out how to get rid of actually on the kindle itself) I've had to plug it into the computer and do it manually. (On my mac, I choose the kindle and can see all the files and delete accordingly).

3. Yes, everything stays in your amazon account (though I think it's accessed through the cloud). I have many many books from other devices that are not actually downloaded to my kindle, but available if I'd like to do so.

Good luck! I love my paperwhite, too and don't know how I'd live without it!

me too. I always have the wifi turned off, I read that having it on drains the battery faster

Thanks everyone. I'll try the suggestions when I get home from work!

I found this out a long time ago too. I've borrowed books from somebody but wasn't going to be done with it in the time allotted so I tried turning off the Wi-Fi and it worked!!!
