I didn't even know this board existed...I have read alot of good things over here, the most intriging is the info on the Marathon and Half Marathon  Reading this has really encouraged me to set a goal at doing the half marathon. My husband is up for it, which is great because we live in Canada so we would have to start saving NOW :goodvibes

Now to the question....I am 18 weeks pregnant, due in early July. I am pretty active, going to the gym or walking atleast 5 km 4-5 times a week. Do you think that if I started to train fully in early September (giving myself 6-8 weeks to recover) that it would be realistic to run/walk the 1/2 Marathon in January? :cheer2:

I followed John Bingham's book for training, it's a 14 week program, last year it started around the first of October but check the calendar to be sure.

are you going to continue walking throughout your pregnancy? definately talk with your doc about your goal - as i'm sure you would since you sound fitness-minded

Bea, sounds like you're right on track. If you stay fit during your pregnancy, your recovery should be easier! Check with your OB and let him/her know what you'd like to do. You just don't want to overdo it!

Six to eight weeks is a reasonable recovery time, but it really depends on your delivery. I was taking short walks with the stroller a week after both my girls. You'll need to use that period to slowly build back up to where you were before the delivery...then you can start the actual training.

Nova Scotia is my dream vacation trip! DH says maybe for our 10th, but I think it's more likely to be our 15th.

Oh...and July 11 is a great day to have a baby :bday:

I am really hoping to maintain my fitness level throughout the pregnancy but am hoping that if I can't, that I can start training in September. I don't want to over do anything right now.

Chimera, my due date is July 11th! Although I m pretty sure it is going to be changed (pushed up :Pinkbounc ) I will find out more next week.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. It has given me a "lift" today. :teeth:

Sounds like a plan to me! As long as you let you doc know, stay fit, but do not over do things you will be successful in completing the event.

Welcome, check in on the thread to say hi to everyone. You do not absoltely positively need to be a participant to come on over. I know last year we enjoyed all the encouragement.

Good luck with your training.
Congratulations! ahead of time.

Lily's right...come on over to the training/info thread and start getting to know everyone!

Most of us are just doing conditioning now, though there's a few training for other races. You can have the first WISH team baby :sunny:

Our family is heavy into July birthdays. Mom is the 7th, cousin is 9th, I'm 11th and MIL is 13th. I always liked not having to go to school on my birthday!

I think with your doctor's okay that you should be okay given that you are currently active.

I say go for it.....obviously anything you do now is to maintain health and strength.....it will be a slow comeback from post-partum to half-marathon....but you can do it.
