M wife surprised me with a Bulova Piermont II Grandfather clock for my very 1st Father's Day this year. It was delivered to my house today. I have wanted one since I was a little boy, as the chimes bring back incredible memories of summers spent at my Grandparents' house where they owned one as well. Now that I got the schmaltz out of the way, my question is: Other than dusting it, what is the general upkeep like on a grandfather clock?

All I ever did to mine was to pull the chains on it every week. I don't know of anything else.

I love the sound of clocks chiming... but not my DH's favorite thing. I only pulled one of the 3 chains so that it wouldn't chime, until I broke it. :sad2: One of these days I'm going to fork over the money to have it fixed. Enjoy your new clock!

You need to have it oiled and serviced every few years. You can call a local clock shop or the place your wife bought it to ask them about it and how much it costs. I got this from my dh who's dad (my fil) owns a clock shop! (I have several clocks, all gifts of course! :thumbsup2 )
